Bribing the DM

I think extortion may work better. Tell him if he doesn't pony up some magic items you are going to set up your own DM table right next to his and tell anybody who joins your campaign they get double starting treasure!!!

I think there may be more to this than is on the forum thread.

Question: who plays the thief? Is it some sweaty nasty guy, or the DM/GM/WE's gf/bf/sexual favours vending machine? My first GM had his girlfriend, who was stunning, as the party thief. They deny the connection, but for some reason by level 7 she had a suit of elven chain, boots of elvenkind, +2 weapons with abilities, and lots of gold, and I had a +2 dagger and no armor. I was the party tank.

The excuse was that, as the thief, she was finding stuff; and that roleplaying that meant not sharing with the party. In 2e the class was named "thief", so who could argue?

EDIT: this is why I mostly GM now.

I never really liked it when the thief stole from the party. If I ever caut one i probably would cut his hands off. pc to pc, not in real life.

I had a friend in a 3e game steal from some of the other party members. I told him if he touched any of my gear I would cut off both of his hands. Unfortunately he never tried anything, was looking forward to seeing the DM's face when I pulled my greatsword and trimmed his nails at the wrist. Good times. :D
