Broken Bones: What Do I Need To Know?

Most people read 'drinks a 6 pack a night' as smoking instead of drinking, I think.

Well, if she is 62 years old, diabetic, does not monitor her diet to any degree, gets no exercise, and likes to drink, and hates 'people', I would guess that she wont be changing her ways any time soon, broken arm or no.

Do as much as you can stand to help her recover, but I also suggest respecting her wishes with respect to getting her healthier. As much as she might like to see 90 years old, I suspect she would rather prefer to continue to eat as she likes and drink as much as she wants. She is an adult, treat her like one.

And by treat her like an adult, I mean dont tolerate a huge amount of crap and abuse from someone your trying to help just because they are your mother. If she knows your trying to help her get healthy, and still wants you to bugger off, then do as she asks.

My own mother is a smoker, and I am convinced that between her smoking and her high stress job, she will probably not see 80, and even her mid 70's may be a stretch. I would prefer that she quit smoking and get a job that wont kill her through stress, but I she is stubborn enough that I dont think that will happen. But she wont quit (job or smoking) unless she decides she wants to.

Likewise, unless your mother really wants to get healthier, she wont. Help her with the broken arm, but dont kill yourself trying to get her to otherwise improve her health.

New cast is on.

It's a much smallere model that has blue wrappings.

Three weeks till the rehab starts.

Good thing it's almost the end of the war as I'm running out of vacation days.

Next week another trip to the bone/joint specialists to check the healing progress.

And now another cast. This one is basically a tight wrap with some metal guards in it to keep things in place.

Another week or two and she begins rehab on the arm.

Seems she was pretty lucky with how quick it healed.

In another month or so I may even start playing D&D again.
