Broken!

The Pipe Dream

I can just see a cartoon for this. Inside the floating mass of metal and plumbing, a circle of Goblins, Gnomes and Glomes are passing around a long peace pipe made from plumbing cast offs. Its about 10 ft long, irregularly shaped and still has a faucet attached somewhere.

In the background a goblin and gnome are fighting over improvements to make in the pipe. The gnome wants a Gnomish blower fan attached to make more smoke. The goblin has found a particularly odoriferous fungus\leaf that must be more potent. Neither have done any preliminary trials.

And a mutant known as "the space mariner" arrives, looking suspiciously like Kevin Costner, but with better hair.

I love it.

As a fan of Waterworld I can see the similarities and the influence. I would pick Lady Anna Meinir to fill this role (she's described in Broken but she's not a mutant). She will be a reoccuring character, although I'm not sure she'll be on the Lost Moon. Explaining how she gets off would be difficult. She's definetly in Broken: The Pipedream.

After reading it, I think it would make Astromundi much more dark and different from the usual, silly Spelljammer crystal sphere. It also make infinity vine and mortiss valuable commodities as they are the only lifeforms that create air.

I just got back from GenCon where a fan (whose name I DID write down but have still packed away) approached me with a few errors in the book. So I'll be fixing those up and updating the PDF and print versions.

That was me. :o

I am very much a fan of the book, so it was a bit awkward to say "Hi, I love your work. Here's everything wrong with it," but I'm glad to have been able to help out with making it even better.

Critizism is hard but it's also absolutely nessesary. I have been looking at Broken since 2002, so I'm real close to the work. Heck I -know- I fixed some of those mistakes, or at least put them on a list of things to fix. But things get lost and changed from version to version.

I've been real busy on Broken: A Sample of Life, the 11 page freebie product that'll be out fairly soon. It's mostly done. I don't need sleep. I will be doing a GenCon follow up where I email everyone I can that I met down there and follow up on stuff. I haven't gotten around to fixing Broken yet - it's so much more fun to do something new, but I'll get it done.

Hey Shane, is it alright if I put your name in the book? I'm not going to edit that credits page in the front again (I changed it 3 times and it was painful) but I'm going to toss in a thanks page in the back after the liscence because there are some other people as well that could use a good old mention and there is room.

I realized because I'm using the OGL liscense the main man's signature isn't in the book. So when I lucked out and met Gary Gygax at GenCon it didn't feel right to ask him for his sig on the book because his name wasn't in it, so I just got a pic. Something I plan on fixing. And my playtester pool has grown and maybe, just maybe they want thanks too...

(You give them the bread crumbs of playtesting credit and they are so much more eager to show for the next one. I think Richard told 20 people he was the editor while we were at the Con. I'll have to milk that when I ask him to look over the expansions...)

`Le... ...you have, well, um, issues (good issues!). I wouldn't work for you if you didn't (can't trust normal people) but I've got to say that add is over the top! I mean, you ACTUALLY got someone to get into a laundry machine for the photo?!!! I love the add!
