Buffy [5-May-03]

I also thought this episode was a little flat.

It was good to see Buffy using her brain again, instead of just jumping into the frying pan without anything resembling a plan or strategy. I found Spike a little annoying with his "you were right, they were wrong" puppy dog act. Buffy's guess was right, her plan (frontal attack on the winery) was ridiculously stupid. He was absolutely right about how he follows his blood. I didn't like Buffy the home invader, either. I'm hoping that this is the last we've seen of Buffy acting so reckless, careless, thoughtless.

The Dawn-reading-ancient-languages thing is also pretty far-fetched. It doesn't fit her character at all. So she reads Turkish and what was the other one, ancient Sumerian? It smacks to me of poor writing. "I don't know what to do with this character, so I'll just have them do this, even though it doesn't fit the character at all."

I'm looking forward to seeing Angel show up next week. He better play a pivotal role in the finale, to tie into that episode of Angel way back where he regains his humanity, but gives it up so that he can help Buffy when she'll need it. Otherwise, it kind of invalidates one of the best Buffy-Angel episodes ever.

I don't think dawn is fluent in old turkish or even sumerian, she just know's her way around translating. Probably has a good eye for it too, recognizing symbols and patterns and such ...

my favorite line of the night: "There's a translation! ... nevermind I'm over it now"

second: "I've gotta pee"

Sex all over the place these days... :D

Yup, though it's funny to know how strongly people react to about 5 minutes of sex in an hour-long show :) Nobody notices how much people talk in these shows. Now that's weird :D

I don't think you can do a half-decent translation without knowing something about the language. It's much more than the alphabet, it's understanding the words, the grammar, the syntax, and even cultural references.

Look at it this way: How many times have Willow or Wesley discovered something important because someone had screwed up a translation? At least a couple times, I'm sure. You can't guess when it comes to magic.

Mean Eye Cat,

I think that's kind of what I was looking at. A friend of mine is running a Buffy game on the same premise. Apparently he and Joss must time share mind space.

For the eagle-eyed, was that a perhaps-dead Kennedy that the cowardly SIT whose name I dont remember but she was one of the origionals was shaking? Who else seems confirmed alive?

So, we know from the preview of next week's episode that Buffy is indeed the the girl in the "it is not for thee; it is for her to wield" bit. Making it a physical weapon is still a mistake in my opinion, but at least they didn't give it to Faith.

Doubtful. I don't think they'd kill another lover of Willow's. But, I hope so. I suppose it would be asking too much for Faith to eat it too.

No offense but I LOVE Faith. And having her die would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY suck. (Not that it's going to happen according to my source but he can be wrong!)

I'm sure she won't die. The way she's being written though, I just wouldn't mind. Since her reappearance on Angel I haven't been a fan of how the character has been handled. The whole body-swap with Buffy was an enormous opportunity for adding some depth to her character. I mean, that last scene between them in the church had some of the best stuff of any Buffy episode ever. And now they bring her back and she's basically pre-mayor Faith again. It's just... bad. There are still lots of cool things about her, it's just disappointing to see the opportunity for a great character so totally glossed over.
