Buffy [5-May-03]

First Post
Plot...

Everybody pretty much makes out thinking the next day will be their last. Oh yeah, Buffy geta a good talking to from Spike and decides not to mope anymore and finds a secret slayer weapon.

Thoughts...

This episode didn't do much for me. I thought it was boring and a bit too hokey at parts. Spike's little admission to Buffy was actually not too bad (I've never really liked their relationship from the start) but the rest of the episode was off. Buffy's revitalization was rushed and seemed campy (which didn't feel right considering the atmosphere of the rest of the show) when she faced Caleb again. Maybe she just needed a good night's sleep.

After this episode, I have a sinking suspicion that we're in for a bit of a stale finale. I hope I'm wrong.

First things first. My S.O. and I had sore eyes by the end of the show after all the eye rolling we were forced to do. Ok yes we get that they're about to go into battle, but do you really have to spend half the episode showing us everyone having i'm-going-to-war-honey-and-i-might-not-come-back sex. It actually served to lessen my anticipation by the time anything actually got going.

Anyways enough bitching.

So it looks like we have an uberweapon after all. I'll betcha 23 pesos that Buffy can't use it; only Faith can.

Just thought you boys like to know, the last epsidose of Buffy WILL end with a bang. At least according to one source I have. The Slayer uber weapon and the Mayan Calendar all work into it as well.

That's good to hear.

But what Mayan Calendar are you referring too?

The Aztecs had an amazingly cool calender. I've never heard anything about the Mayans', so maybe it's the Aztecs'. Then again maybe the Mayans' is also quite cool, I'll have to look that up.

*thinks it the mayan* Basically Mayans had a calendar that had 12 suns. 2012 is the year of the Last Sun.

[Editor's note I was slightly mistaken. There are THREE versions of the Mayan calendar. I think the one I'm thinking of is the Long Count one. I could be wrong however.]

not bad at all! The blatant "do me now's" didn't even get on my nerves that much

when I saw the set up of weapons ... I thought goonies "Booty Trap!"

... and go buffy with that epic expertise/dodge!

Wow. Two boring episodes in a row. Almost feeling I can just skip the finale and not miss anything.

I did like the cliff-hanger (the bomb). Made me laugh--sort of a "wink" to the bad cliff-hangers of night-time soaps. We only have to wait a week to see that no one of consequence died, not the whole summer.

I really liked this episode. The pre-apocalypse sex was kinda overdone, but it has a long history on Buffy. They showed good characterization of faith, tossing the principal aside the next day.

I liked how buffy adapted, fighting Caleb by not fighting. She's always had the role of the strongest, she has powered through her conflicts, and she finally met one she couldn't overpower, so she took on the passive role for once.

The slayer weapon, eh, whatever. I think there was some good foreshadowing of the First taking bodily form so it could feel things, which is kind of a shame, I wanted to see them defeat something they couldn't smash.

This is from the book The Shaman’s Secret: The Lost Resurrection Teachings of the Ancient Maya by Douglas Gillette, M.A., M. Div:

“The Mayan shamans created two different calendars that, as they interacted with each other, revealed the hidden connections among all earthly and Otherworldly events. One calendar was especially sacred. It directly expressed the divine drama, which measured itself out in the form of ever-recurring cycles of 220 days, divided into 13 months. The other calendar, like our own calendar was made up of 365 days.”

These two calendars “engaged each other like the gears of a vast machine.” These two calendars would complete 52 year cycles. At the end of each cycle, disaster was suppose to strike and the Mayans would take “precautions to avoid catastrophe.”

“Some of the Maya priests appear to have predicted the end of the present creation for Dec. 23 2012. Others calculated the end either Oct. 15 or 23 of the year 4772. And yet those with perhaps greater powers to fathom the ‘not as yet’ foresaw that this, the age of true human beings, would last 142 nonillion years.”

I don’t mean to sound like a pessimist, but with the current shape of the world today and overpopulation, I’m laying money on 2012 ;)
