ok ive seen some nice awnsers.

orog / half ogre
cleric 1 / fighter 6 / battleguard of tempus 10 / epic battleguard of tempus 20
with the war and strength domains

here i agree it also gives caster lvl's but it makes a hell of a melee character
giving a th of 50 with 12 attacks
dealing averige of 1300 dmg per round
and since he is large give him the feat large and in charge
keeping opponents at 10' distance on a succesful hit

this is all without cleric boost spells

I don't see how this build would give 12 attacks each with +100 damage. What's the secret here. I looked up battleguard of tempus but nothing really stood out.

ok 37 lvl's make up for about 26 bab that is 5 att + 2 weapon fighting feats makes 10
and there were some other things that gave extra attacks.
its a large char with monky grip gives you 2 oversized 2 handed battle axes with some other feats great str and other bonusses make for an average of 110 dmg.
average crits are also calculated.

The number of attack never goes over 4/round for a +20 or higher BAB.
From the SRD:
Epic Attack Bonus
Similarly, the character’s base attack bonus does not increase after character level reaches 20th. However, the character does receive a cumulative +1 epic bonus on all attacks at every odd-numbered level beyond 20th, as shown on Table: Epic Save and Epic Attack Bonuses. Any time a feat, prestige class, or other rule refers to your base attack bonus (except for gaining additional attacks), use the sum of your base attack bonus and epic attack bonus.

Realize that even if you did have a +36 to attack, that is terrible at level 40. There's an old thread on the forums here about how easy it is to break 120 AC at level 21. If you are trying to be a legitimate melee threat I would try to see if you can't get a four-digit attack bonus. That way you will be reasonably assured of having some attack left over to convert into damage.

Regarding average damage calculations, I would look long and hard about what target AC they assume. Usually it's something lowball like AC 55. That simply is not going to cut it at level 40.

sorry for an OOT question but how does your DM manage to keep this kind of epic still fun to play after the first few sessions? what kind of challenges do you usually face, what monsters do you fight?

for the last few posts

the problem is for a melee character to keep up with spellcasters.
they get big boosts hitting epic.

that is why we keep on calculating bab.

and how the dm keeps things fun :)
easy make npc's the same way you build characters or give monsters an extra boost on th , ac , saves and most important hp.

Yup. Play an elf, go Lloth-touched warblade 20/eternal blade 10/swordsage 4/master of nine 5, not necessarily in this order (go warblade 16/swordsage 4 before hitting lvl 20 so you optimize your saves and only lose 1 pt of BAB).

The thing is, that just increases their damage, which IMO is futile. The problem with spellcaster/fighter balance is the wealth of possibilities available to a spellcaster that simply is not there for a fighter (Bo9S excepted.)

Your damage is not likely to avail you much against a well-played 40th level sorcerer with hundreds of spell levels, thousands of followers, conjured outsiders, and the ability to bend reality via epic magic.

As an exercise, sure, it's worth doing. Just be aware that unless the DM dumbs down enemies, you're not going to shine compared to epic mages.
