Build Options

My speculations:

Cleric: Frontline vs leads from the rear.

Fighter: Two handed weapon vs weapon and shield.

Paladin: Haven't the foggiest.

Ranger: Melee vs archer.

Rogue: Brawny vs trickster.

Warlock: Haven't the foggiest.

Warlord: Tactical vs inspiring.

Wizard: Haven't the foggiest.

Based on a fighter (or was it weapon?) article waaay back, I'm going to say that the figther build options are based off of weapons. So you'll have a "spear" fighter bush (as they call it), a hammer fighter bush, etc.
 

I suspect that many of the "Charimatic Rogue" traits will be rolled into the bard. There was already a lot of poaching/overlap there anyway.

This is outright nonsense. In virtually all fantasy novels the rogue is extremely smart. Educated varies, but quite often, he is. I don't know what rogues you're thinking of, but it's not people like The Grey Mouser, Locke Lamora, or Fitzchivalry, clearly.

Making the "Charismatic Rogue" traits into Bard traits would be bloody criminal, frankly. They're not even particularly similar concepts.

Without any access to feats or multiclassing, how many types of rogues could you play in 3e at lvl 1?

Not many. I consider the 3e rogue much more restrictive than the 4e one. The 3e rogue had little control over their class abilities until higher levels and even then their control was minimal.
 



I think Warlord will be something akin to tactical vs inspirational, command vs example. In one set, the Warlord gives bonuses to others who mirror his example. In the other, he orders the group to do certain things, and they can do them.

Such as:

Inspiration/example
Warlord charges a creature, allies who charge that enemy get bonus to hit.
Warlord attacks a creature, allies get bonuses against the creature.
Warlord hits an enemy, everyone gets an OA on that enemy.

vs

Tactical/commanding
Feather me yon oaf! Everyone gets a free missile attack at yon oaf
Regroup! Everyone can shift X number of squares in a direction toward the warlord
Press on! Designated character gets an immediate standard attack to use as he pleases

I am completely making up these powers, for the most part, in an effort to better show what I mean.
