bon voyage!

(or however you spell that :p)

I've heard about this in a magazine I've read before (Rolling Stone?) and it sounded amazing. I hope you guys have a great time, in any case :D

weeeee

I was supposed to go, years ago ('97) with a friend who had been going for a few years. I rode my motorcycle across the country, got to his house...he had left that morning, but left directions on his front door (he lived in Reno). So, I hopped back on my bike, got soem water and gas, and headed out. About 10 miles later my chain fell off. I got it back on, but it was in no shape to make it to the desert. So, I got back to his house, broke in, and waited for him. He eventualyl got back and we had a happy reunion (yeah he was one of those friends that didn't mind me breaking into his house if I didn't currently have a key). He burned his boat there that year (a big rowboat he had set up with a sail and wheels...said it was a pretty fun ride til he tossed it in the fire).

Anyway, for those not wanting to follow the links, the basic history was a guy having life problems went to the beach, near San Francisco if I recall correctly, and built a life-size 'human' from random stuff, and torched it. To burn his past strife and renew his life. Something like that. It became a yearly thing, other people joined in, it moved to the playa, and grew into what we have now. I have never been to it, though I was afraid years ago it would collapse under the weight of so many people.

As an off-note, there is a party in Poland called Polish Woodstock, and about 400,000 people show up. Not quite what the original Woodstock was, but similar idea. One of the biggest fund raisers in the country (for childrens hospitals/services) was told it could use a certain percentage to advertise in any way it wanted. So it organized a rock festival. 3 days, every August, no charge to get in or camp. Pretty fun too, though I missed it the last 2 years due to life's little twists. Anyway, if anybody is around Poland in early August, come on by.

And have a great burning!
Aaron
