Burst Fire function/Burst Fire feat

I belive that the M16A2 that Kreynolds is speaking of comes from one of the supplement books not entirely intended for D20M. He has told me, off the boards, that the description for the M16A2 he has reference to states that it has an automatic setting. I also think that he got all of this from some newsgroup. I tried to tell him that the M16A1 is the only M16 version that has an automatic setting. His only argument was that perhaps this version he was looking at is for police purposes, but I would have to disagree. The autofire setting was taken off the M16 to save the government money. Firing on automatic becomes very costly when one is in a combat zone. I should know I was in one. Hence, the burst setting that only allows 3 rounds to be fired at the time of the trigger being pulled hard. I think that his information on the M16A2 is incorrect, and needs some touch up work.

Has anybody seen anything on a weapon called the M249 SAW? SAW stands for Squad Assault Weapon.

The license built version of the M16A2 made in Canada is the C7 and it is a full auto weapon.

No. The M16A2 I'm speaking of comes from Colt Manurfacturing Company, Inc.

It's in Ultramodern Firearms. Range increment is a bit short though. It lists it as 80 but it should be closer to about 100.

I wonder whether the following would make sense, given that you can use automatic fire to attempt to hit everyone in a 10ftx10ft zone by "hitting" that zone, then they make Ref saves to duck out of the way...

How about untrained burst fire hitting a 5ftx5ft zone? i.e. you are spending 3/5 rounds to hit a place where one person is standing, and he has to make a Ref ST to get out of the way? The Burst Fire feat lets you get more bullets into the target (higher damage), or you can just use the burst setting to spray at a person without trying to hit the whole 10ftx10ft area.

I'm not sure how well I've explained that, but do you see what I'm suggesting? It swaps a "make an attack roll against a target" into "force target to make a ST" - which would be quite important against some dodgy geezers...

Cheers

How about leaving the Burst Fire feat as is, but change the standard "extra bullets are wasted" to +2 to hit?

So those without the feat can use 3 or 5 round bursts to improve their chances of hitting, while those with the feat have the option of better hit chance or better damage.

I like the suppressive fire rules from Dragonstar, but mad props must go to the Spycraft folks, as the system's built from the ground up for firearms. The burst settings, "cover me" etc. are great -- although I don't like their strafe and autofire, I actually prefer D20Modern's rules for that.

I'm thinking of starting up a "Modern" roleplaying website, mostly for plain-language compare-and-contrasts on the way different OGL systems handle different mechanics. THink it's worth the effort?
