Buy off LA?

Thing is, I'm doubtful on whether I'm gonna go for 4e. Some of the changes I've heard of I seriously dislike. I'll give it a read, but I'd say its more likely that I'll just take some of the 4e rules that are an improvement and find a way to play a disgusting hybrid of 3.5 and 4e. (I may even make a word document with the full text of my 3.75 rules when they're done.

I honestly think that is what most people will end up doing (at least at the beginning).

I think the spellcasting part is one of the most intriguing so far though - and that is the issue that is causing the most problems currently. Wizards always being able to do something wizardly and not have to rely on crossbows when they've used up their spells for the day.

That in combination with dropping the multi-class penalty, and instead making certain races gain benefits for their "favored class".

I think these two will most likely help to alleviate the problem, at least a by a fairly big step.

Personally I also like the idea of talent trees.

But I will hold my full opinion in check until it finally comes out (something like June '08 or so).

I'm mostly psyched about the on-table improvements - i.e. that all classes should be roughly comparable in terms of management (so that it's easier to play a caster without overwhelming the IRL time spent, or playing a fighter that does more than simply attack with power attack and charge exactly once a round), and that iterative attacks are gone.

I want less pointless dice-rolling, and more combat, in combat, and 4e looks like it'll deliver. I don't mind dice rolling, it's just that there are so many that have so little in-game effect, and I don't see the point of that.
