Save the hassle and buy it at walmart.com for 16.75 or something. its a few bucks more per book but several hours of bull less...

Keep in mind he's saying twelve bucks TOTAL, not per book. I'm not that thrifty either, but I am always happy to see someone take advantage of a poorly-designed promotion.

I can't imagine myself test-driving a car that I don't want, to get a certificate that I have to wait 4 to 6 weeks to use, to get books that I'm probably going to wind up previewing at Gencon, and possibly buy or not buy.

Tell me about it. It's not worth 50 dollars to me to drive to the nearest VW dealer (hint: not close) and be subjected to a sales pitch.

Similarly, it's not worth a trip to the bahamas for me to be imprisoned by high-presure time-share-condo sales persons.

I'm not saying your experience would be the same (depends on the salesperson), but when I went in and asked for them to stamp the sheet, I didn't even get a sales pitch. I was in and out inside of 10 minutes.

You don't have to do it, of course, but it's just a nice option for those cheap folk like myself :)

Y'know, this is what separates me from the thirfty. :)

I'm game for it. We're thinking about a new car, anyway. Now, since my wife is lobbying _very_ hard (read "or else the couch") for a Durango, odds are extremely slim I'll be buying a VW anything. It's a nice couch, but not _that_ nice.

Still, since the VW dealer is directly along my route to the office, I can afford to stop in and look.

Besides, as someone else said, I'm all for taking advantage of a horrendously designed promotion.

My girlfriend has actually been eyeing a Passat, so the trip will be double duty for us. Not that I'm averse to getting $50 for a 30-minute excursion.

Bought a Volkswagen last year, a Jetta station wagon. Very happy with it. Hopefully, most dealers are like the dealer we bought from. Very open, friendly, no pressure, helpful. They even fought to get us a better interest rate! Volkswagen == good.

A few weeks ago, there was a similar offer floating around - a $75 gift card useable anywhere they take American Express for test driving a Lincoln. I would have taken them up on the offer, but I forgot about it until after it expired :(
