C&C house rules -- what are yours?

I just took a look at that. The article reminds me a lot of the magister class in Arcana Evolved. The spells seem to work like spells readied.

I like the idea of an alternate to spell books. Very nice. I'm going to keep this in mind for my sylvan mage in Dragonlance.

I am debating on a houserule using the Non Weapon Profiencies in 2e. Right now I have in my head that buying an NWP allows you to add your level to a skill check. Of course you could just import NWP's wholesale but that would make it inconsistent with the usual task resolution system. I was also thinking maybe it just adds a +4 to your roll with the associated ability... this might be a better option.

What I considered doing was importing the 3e skill system. Then if a C&C class ability matches a skill (i.e. rogues and rangers have Hide), then that would translate into a +2 bonus to the skill check.

Hrm...the target numbers could be based on one's prime, just like saves.

I do multiple attacks. As you go up in level you get more attacks (this goes for all classes at the same rate). If you hit with your first attack you get to do do your second. If you hit with your second you get to do your third attack, and so on.

Lvl.
2: Second strike
6: Third strike
10: Fourth strike

All attacks are at the same To Hit. It creates ebb and flow in combat whereas the antagonists take turns unleashing their worst on each other.

I just posted house rules to our group's Yahoo group. I think it's a good idea to write house rules down. I found that we're actually not using that many, and all of them center around spell use in combat.

My house rules for C&C are currently a work in progress. I am just now pulling myself out from under an immensely heavy workload, so I can begin to refocus on our campaign. I will post what I can when I get everything together. I am liking some of the rules I see, and may playtest/adopt some of em.

I use 3.5 races & classes (including several from Arcana Unearthed and many of Shadowfoot's classes from the WotC message boards) converted to work with the C&C SIEGE system

Spellcasters make an attribute check to cast spells (CL = spell level). They get three free failures. The fourth makes them fatigued, the fifth exhausted, and the sixth unconscious. They are limited to a total number of spells per day equal to the highest spell level x4.

I still use feats, but I converted them to work with C&C's SIEGE system and combat system.

I use a Combat Proficiency system I found online that bases attack damage on your characters combat proficiency rather than his type of weapon. It's worked well so far.

I kept prestige classes because I like the variety.

I kept the 3.5 initiative system even though I prefer C&C's. I did this because I converted the game midstream, and one player had an unfettered/rogue with Improved Initiative and a high Dex. Since my purpose was to streamline my prep time and quicken game time, and not to screw the players, I opted to keep the old system.

Finally, I'm letting the players choose an additional prime at 10th level.

I was thinking about an elf wizard that cannot take advantage of his elven weapon training because none of the weapons is on the wizard weapon list. So a house rule came to mind. What do you all think about this.

Elf Weapon Training: If one or more of the listed weapons is on the elf’s class weapon list, the elf must choose his weapon training with one of the weapons on the class list. If none of the listed weapons is on the elf’s class weapon list, the elf may choose his weapon normally and that weapon is treated as if it were on the elf’s class list, too. So an elf wizard, for example, may choose weapon training with the longbow and receive a +1 to hit with longbows, and the longbow is treated as if it were on that elf’s wizard weapons list. This allows an elf to take advantage of his weapon training ability even if his class does not normally allow such weapons.

So elven rogues would choose their weapon training with either the longsword, shortsword, or shortbow because those three weapons are on the rogue list. Elven druids would choose either the longsword or shortsword.

Akrasia (and others), can I take all your houserules and add them to a small document I will create, of houserules for Castle & Crusades?

I did write my own houserule (which is basically a clarification of the SIEGE engine, which has aspects a little confusing for me), but now I plan to add other things (including Akrasia's fighting styles, critical hits, etc.) to make a small netbook (a dozen page or so). So let me know if you agree with that, so I can compile them.
