Caffinated....

About 6-8 years ago, I use to drink up to 3 litres of Coke a day. I stopped. It was killing me. Now, I only get my caffine from chocolate and iced tea. I don't drink cola, period. I've never liked coffee.

Holy caffinated calories Batman, thats a lot of soda!

Yeah, four 2 liter bottles of soda in a day is something I could probably pull off, but it isn't something I'd actually want to do. One 2 liter makes me use the toilet enough, I wouldn't want to be ruunin' for it all day long.

I had some delicious local coffee today. Then on the way home, I bought a coffee at the gas station. BLEH! What a difference.

Those good local coffee shops really spoil you, don't they?

I keep trying to stop drinking soda, I even go months without it. Eventually, some excuse to get re-hooked comes along and I jump on it.

At least I am no longer drinking 5 to 6 2 liters a day any more. My worst days are only 2 2 liter bottles. Usually only one.

Fortunately I hate coffee and tea, and am not a huge lover of chocolate.

Still, I need to stop, and stay stopped.

Hmm... I wonder if Vampires (read: real undead vampires) get caffeine rushes after draining the blood of someone who just drank caffeine.

Back during my very short stint with Vampire: The Masquerade I recall reading about lush vampires who would feed on drunk people to get drunk, so I imagine that in the World of Darkness, at least, vampires do get rushes after feeding from someone who just drank caffeine. :)

I recall hearing that you'd have to eat something along the lines of 10lbs of chocolate to even approach the amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee.

Well, that'd be incorrect. Overstated by about a factor of 10 to 20, actually.

A typical 7oz cup of coffee you get from a drip coffeemaker has between 115 and 175 milligrams of caffeine.

A 1.5 oz bar of Hersey's milk chocolate has about 10 milligrams of caffeine. A 1.5 oz bar of Hershey's Special Dark has about 30 milligrams of caffeine

So, maybe 1.4 pounds of cheap milk chocolate to equal a cup of coffee, and less than half a pound of the dark stuff.

In addition:

12 oz of Coca-Cola - 34 mg of caffeine
12 oz of Mountain Dew - 54.5 mg of caffeine
12 oz of Jolt Cola - 140 mg of caffeine
6 oz black tea - 50 mg of caffeine

So, that can of Mountain Dew is only roughly equivalent to a cup of tea. Mind you, tea also contains chemicals that slow the uptake of the caffeine, so it is a bit more time-release.

Ah, I imagine someone was exaggerating a bit, but still, 1+ pounds of chocolate for as much caffeine as a cup of coffee? Yuck. Yeah, everyone makes a big deal of how much caffeine is in Mt. Dew, but it's really only a lot compared to other sodas, things like coffee and tea have more or an equal amount.
