Calgary Gamers! (or Alberta Gamers!) Introduce yourselves!

Sentry Box is a great shop, but their store hours are preposterous. They can't seem to figure out that most of their customers are either a) kids who go to school or b) grown up kids that have careers, neither of which can get to the store by 5 or 6 during weekdays. It annoys the piss out of me.

And for the record, when I lived in Edmonton, I shopped at Adveturer's Supply all the time. I was heartbroken when it shut down and I had to shop at Warp 1, which I always disliked for their unfriendliness and mark up of products.

I am also from Edmonton. I am the other person Foundry of Decay mentioned who spent crazy amounts of money at Adventurers Supply. We were like ornaments for how often we were in the store.

I look to be one of the old timers here being 31 years old. What is worse is that I have been gaming longer than some gamers have been alive.

yes, pity me and my northern ways. only one of you has even mentioned anything within 400km of poor me. i am from the area that loughlin city in the x men movie was based on. no cages but a half hour in a G.P. bar without a fight is an act of god.

the one nostalgic advantage i have over alot of people is that i bought my first dnd stuff from some of the guys who made the first baldur's gate game in a store called Arcanium. it smelled of cat urine and they made you pay for them to dm but the half orc cleric boss in the mines was one of my friend's characters back in the day. he called me from his rented house in edmonton just to tell me his guy was in this new dnd pc game so i bought it; and my life went on hold for a couple of weeks.

at least i now have some good store names for when i visit "the big cities" for hockey games. also i used to live in medicine hat, near the earls where i worked at the time. rotten chicken baseball is such a great game.

Edit: i'm 25 by the way :)

What the hell are you talking about?! Excuse my french. The Box is open late on Fridays (till 21:00) and usually after six on weekends. (They don't open up till noon on those days though. but that exactly targets the lazy asses who make up a majority of their clientele.)

While it is true that Warp1 (and 2 and 3) have a high mark up on their prices, they've always been fairly friendly with good service.

My only complaint about the Sentry Box is that it seems glutted with all the new D20 stuff and the older games seem to get little attention or space anymore and hence are difficult to find anything in. But on the whole, one is lucky to have such a place nearby.

Quit your f**kin' whinin'

Well, those hours seem pretty lousy to me. The main store in Ottawa, Fandom II, is open late on Thursdays as well as Fridays. Then again, they are closed every Monday. They have similar opening hours to the SB.

I'm not terribly put-off by their hours, but I do agree with uv23 to a degree. It would be nice for them to offset their hours a little further in the evening and open up a little later in the morning, or around noon.

I have no real reason to complain, as it is a kick-ass store overall.

I have two jobs and probably one of the worst schedules of anyone I know (partly beacuse I'm essentially on call in my off time as well to one of my jobs) and I can usually still scam a trip to the 'Box at least once a month if I want, nevermind the fact that It's at least a half hour trip to get there (one way.)

a) most kids in school are only going to get there on weekends anyways, and not many of them get up significantly before noon.

b) You're a gamer for chrissakes, you're telling me that you can't slip in there the odd friday after work to pick up something you want once and a while?

c) Myself excepted, most normal people get off work around 16:00 to 17:00, leaving plenty of time to drop by a place that is open till 18:00.

d) Unless you're one of those lazy-ass-computer-industry types who don't show to work until noon then complain that they're always working late because they played tribes half the day and still have a project to finish before tomorrow.
