If the thread sucks that badly, why did you peek in here in the first place?
Not all threads will be for everyone - least of all a thread about taking every scrap of advantage from the rules. But then, that's the game his group's playing. If you hate three-card Monty, don't come to the table if that's what's playing.

I do have to reiterate the call to ignore level-advjustment races - ESPECIALLY at low levels. The absolute max I would suggest is a LA+1 race, but that stretches it. Go Wizard, put in a spell focus feat for your favorite magic school (evocation and conjuration are good choices), and make your other feat point-blank shot for those ray spells. REMEMBER THAT SPELL RESISTANCE DOES NOT AFFECT Conjuration Spells any more - very handy for Melf's acid arrow and the like.
EDIT - that should say that "Most Conjuration spells are not affected by spell resistance." Some are, but only a few - check the 1st and 2nd level spell descriptions.
