Calling Crothian and Anyone else around Columbus, Ohio - Game stores?

Howdy,

My brother just got promoted and is moving to Zanesville, Ohio - no really it was a promotion. ;)

We're heading out there next week to check out the house he bought, establish a bank account and all the normal junk involved in a long distance move.

He has a few work related meetings and I will have a few hours on my hands. Could you direct me to some local gaming stores?

Thanks, I really appreciate you coming out of lurker mode to help me out on this!

Pogre,

There are only two game stores in Columbus that I know of: The GuardTower and the Soldiery. The Gaurdtower is the best of the two, IMO, but YMMV.

Guardtower
(614) 488-4311 3600 Trabue Rd
Columbus, OH

Soldiery Inc
(614) 267-1957 4256 N High St
Columbus, OH

If your a comic book fan, you might want to visit the Laughing Ogre, which is located in the same complex as the Soldiery.

Have fun!

There is also Ravenstone Games, in the north end of town:

(click on the "Visit Our Store" button at the bottom for a map)

They generally have a better selection of RPG materials than the Soldiery. Don't know how it compares with the Guardtower, however, as that store is on the opposite end of town where I live - don't visit it much.

There's also a store in Pickerington, which is just outside of Columbus on the E/SE side. I believe its called Armoury Games. I'm not sure if they just carry mini stuff like Warhammer or RPGs as well.

Both Ravenstone and the Guardtower are great stores. If he's looking for a group, he may be best off trying Ravenstone, as it seems that there's more RP going on there than the Guartower most of the time. IME, The Guardtower is always busy but it seems like when I'm in there its mostly mini games and CCGs with a single table of RPers.

I don't think Crothian knows about game stores. He would have to move away from the computer to go to one, hence losing time in which he could make valuable posts.

In addition to all those previously mentioned, there are three Comic Town stores in Columbus, OH which all carry a variety of gaming stuff. (Morse Rd, close to I-71, in the Easton Mall, and on Rt 3 in Westerville, OH off of I-270).

What kind of gaming things are you looking for specifically? General RPG stuff is probably going to be found at Comic Town Westerville or Raventstone Games. Other stuff (Heroclix, Warhammer, Magic, etc. you may have more luck at different stores.)

I just like going to all kinds of stores - I prefer stores that carry miniatures and the unusual. If it is just a comic book store with a book rpg collection it's of less interest to me.

Ravenstone, Soldiery, and the Guard Tower all have board games, rpgs, and miniatures of all kinds. Comic Town has RPGs, comics (obviously), MtG type CCGs, and I believe I've seen D&D minis there, but no general pewter grab-and-paint type minis. The Soldiery tends to have a ton of out-of-print games, so if you like old world of darkness or 2nd-edition AD&D stuff, make sure to hit that store.

Columbus isn't that close to Zanesville, though, an hour or better depending on traffic, weather, etc. Or will your brother's meetings be in Columbus?
