Campaign ends in 4 sessions what do you do?

Crothian,

Maybe give us a synopsis of what's going on right now and we could offer some more specific suggestions...?

I wasn't actually looking for suggestions. I was curious what others would do if this happened in your campaign. A lot of times on EN World I just like to hear what others would do in a similiar situation for their game. It sometimes makes a good discussion.

I'm streamlining the campaign. I'm ignoring some minor plots to concentrate on the big plot. For instance the Rod of Seven parts I was using as a minor plot line that the players had as they have two of the even pieces. The plot and the poeple hunting for it will die off. The big plot which involves a war and the secret force behind it will come into the center and with luck the heroes will save the day. :D

If you're a prostylizer, does that mean you can't enter the Style Olympics?

*considers wandering aimlessly to game store and buying more Scarred Lands books... unsure why... *
Maybe. But I'm sure I can't enter the Spelling bee olympics. ;)

Rod of Seven parts eh? Why not get a lot of players involved then eh? ;)

Nightfall, I'm so disappointed. Surely you meant to say, "Four sessions? Heck, just toss it and buy some Scarred Lands books for your NEXT campaign!"

Next thing you know, diaglo'll be coming in here without a mention of OD&D. And then the world will end.

This was my loudest laugh for the day, THANKS barsoomcore! :p

My fault...I misunderstood what you were looking for.

So, to answer your question....

I would end it with a 'bang' but wouldn't force the storyline. But a 'bang' doesn't have to be the 'big climatic battle'...it could be an intense role-playing situation the characters find themselves in, forced to make extremely difficult choices, etc. I'd shoot to make it memorable whatever it is.

I also like Mark's suggestion to leave things a bit 'open-ended' should the campaign be revived in the future.

I would make a simple finale that SEEMS big. Think of The Seven Samurai. When you get right down to it, they didn't acomplish all that much. All the Samurai did was save a small village, but it felt EPIC. If you could pull that off, even a 4 session campaign would be great.

If it were me I would turn the focus onto one of the remaining player's characters, and develop it into the start of a future quest for them that a new campaign could later be launched from.

Another friend of mine ended a campaign by having the heroes win a great victory and save the world, become the world's heroes, and the DM then let each of them make up and give a short narration of what would happen during the next two decades of their lives. He then started a new campaign twenty-five years after the end of the other, with the children and appprentices of the former party as the playing characters. Worked great for continuity.

This would be great, but doesn't work for the campaign. But I mreally like the idea.

I honestly have no idea. This thread made me realize that I've only ended one campaign since 1988. Good lord. *blink*

I think you want to bring around some sense of closure, while leaving some hooks for the next campaign if it's set in the same world.
