Campaign ends in 4 sessions what do you do?

Yup. One game from 1988-1991, then my current campaign has gone from 1992 to the present. I think this says that I suck at ending campaigns. :p

Hmm...my last past actually should have read:

"I stumped Piratecat!! I stumped Piratecat!!!" And then I'd get up and a dance a jig around the computer desk :D

Well if you think you're bad what about me? The weekly campaign I began in May of 1982 is still going strong, and still with four of the founding players and their characters! We also have two other campaigns as well, one started in 1995 the other in 2002 that are also both still going strong!

I've always wanted to have the kind of campaign end where you get to decide what things your character does in the next 20 years (assuming they survive the ending of the campaign of course ;)). But I've never played in the right kind of game. Hey hum.

The last time I planned to end a campaign in four sessions, the players immediately did something radically unexpected and ended it in one :)

But, for what it's worth, close off the major story-arcs and work out what characters are likely to be doing for the rest of their lives (should they be high enough level that I'm not going to run them). Make sure I leave enough loose ends that I could start the campaign up with something else should I want to.

I honestly have no idea. This thread made me realize that I've only ended one campaign since 1988. Good lord. *blink*

I think you want to bring around some sense of closure, while leaving some hooks for the next campaign if it's set in the same world.
Wow. Only 1? I've ended at least 10. :p Maybe 50 if you count all the one shots and no shows plus the "I quit!"

This gives me an idea - you could move the campaign timeline forward say 10 years per session, with one major event per session, and have the final session set ca 40 years in the future, maybe with the PCs called out of retirement for a final battle. It would have more a 'Pendragon' feel and let the players feel the PCs were part of history.
