Campaign Help - Have a theme, but how to incorporate it?

Angelsboi

First Post
ok, im starting a new in life game and my campaign is based off of the Final Fantasy settings. Check my sig to see what im talking about.

The main theme that i have is Destiny/Fate

So far i only have two players (with hopefully 2 more) who are Aelfin (elfs).

One is a young girl, a rogue who has shadows in her blood (she will become a shadowdancer). She is the typical Final Fantasy character 'the girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders'.

The other, i dont know much about, except he is a hunter (a ranger).

I will introduce a NPC if i have to to help them along. But how would i incorperate the theme of Fate and Destiny into this campaign?

I'll bite, I'm supposed to, right?

Here are the two best things I've got on Final Fantasy Based D20 games, the first is the current (well not actually current, I'm a bit farther) version of Final Fantasy Tactics D20, and the other is a group's work on a Chainmail type conversion of Final Fantasy Tactics.

And I saw your post on the Wizards boards, and I think I may have replied. You've got a ton of text out there, and it would take me a while to read it all. I'll try and put some effort into reading it all sometime.

something dealing with destiny/fate???

Then you'll want a bad hand of fate to start the campaign, whether it is to the characters or to a good section of the land.

Or you give a vision to the girl and show her what the world will be like in a year, two years or something. now she has to figure out what caused it and how to stop it.

Better yet, give 3-4 visions to 3-4 different people. together they get a better picture of what it is that they have to fight against but not a complete picture.

Have you got a story thought up yet?

The old FF's Light Warriors and The Four Cyrstals stuff is a lot easier to make into a campaign base, but it'd probably be a bit too bland for most players.

Well, the first thing you need to do is get a little more specific about your theme. Fate/Destiny by itself isn't workable. So think of what you want to _say_ about Fate/Destiny. For example:

*Destiny cannot be changed.
*You must accept your Fate.
*Destiny can be cruel.
*Destiny can be kind.
*Why must we accept our Fate?
*There is no Destiny, we choose our Fates.

Once you get an idea for what kinds of things you want to illustrate regarding Destiny/Fate, the next step is to design adventures rovolving around these statements.

For instance, if you like "destiny cannot be changed" then you might introduce a prophecy about a city being destroyed, hook the PCs to stop the prophecy, but spin it so that the PCs' actions actually result in the destruction of the city. (A Theseus kind of thing.)

If you like "destiny can be cruel" then create an adventure where the PCs must escort a priestess to a sacred ritual, only to learn that the ritual is a self-sacrifice necessary to the priestess' people.

etc. etc. etc.

Step 1: Figure out what angle(s) you're coming at the theme from.
Step 2: Design adventures to illustrate the angle(s) you've chosen.

Wow!! All great ideas. One thing though Cream, i havent played FFT and from what i heard, i dont think id like it.

Hell out of all the FF's my favorite character is Lulu, Rydia, Garnet, Aeris and Celes (not in that order).

What i want to say is this ...

"You can't avoid your fate. You can only put it off for a short period of time. There's moments in your life that make you, that set the course for who you're going to be. Sometimes they're little subtle moments, sometimes they're not. Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So, what, are we helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come, can't help that. It's what you do afterward that counts. That's when you find out who you are."

I know its a lot to say but its deffinately Final Fantasy. Ok ok ok, so i got my idea for the theme while watching Becoming Pt 1 and 2. Sue me.

Here's just a random thought... but you said that one of them is the typical "girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders" and that she's got the Shadow in her blood "going to become a shadowdancer."

How about incorporating something like the Shadow Weave from the Forgotten Realms, where she is the natural channel for the forces of Shadow because she represents the Light that is needed for Shadows to exist. Yet, she has a much darker twin, someone who represents the Darkness that spawns Shadow. She has no choice but to embrace the Shadow, tainting herself, in order to save the world from eternal darkness. That is her Destiny.

Just a quick thought thrown out there without too much thought.

interesting idea. i will have to use that but nix the Shadow Weave (or make it something different). Its a Final Fantasy typ world, not Forgotten Realms
