Campaign newsletter: advice?

I make mine more like newspapers, complete with advertising from local shops. it's a bit fun, but not too unrealistic. I just put a pulbic interperetation of the group's recent events in article form. Sometime I drop hints in there as well. Here is an example:

EDIT: I was also inspired by RPG Tips, great ezine!

One more note on mine, it is an in game letter, delivered to magic users that are in a certain society in the campaign. It is delivered by imps, who take payment on a per issue basis. It is purely a magical publication, so most advertisments and such are geared towards that audience. We've had a lot of fun with it, and it's a wonderful way to provide hooks an storyline hints. The players will eventually get to meet some of the reporters, who are interesting people heh.

I used to do the "Waterdeep Daily Trumpet" in my old college campaign. I made up a one page newspaper that detailed background events I wanted to include, PC exploits that might have made the news and ads of various kinds, including "Adventurers Wanted" ads. On a couple of occasions when the timeline overlapped, I included events they had done as PCs in a different campaign we had run, which they got a kick out of. One amusing running gag was an increasingly desperate series of ads looking for adventurers to rescue some noble's daughter from a dragon. The ads included increasingly lucritive awards that eventually bordered on the ludicrous. They began to be accompanied by warnings from the city government for adventurers to avoid this particular dragon because it was extremely dangerous. Once or twice, the paper included stories about the dragon from survivors of previous rescue attempts describing the horrors they experienced. For some reason, my players never wanted to go kill that dragon...

I also use the newspaper format, but I'm running an Eberron campaign, so it seems to fit very well.

The one I have available to post is too large for attachments to this board. If you want to see a copy, let me know and I can email it to you. (600K or so)

Resurrecting this thread. I just released my first one to my group. No responses yet on whether they liked it, but I'm hoping it gets some interest. We play every other week, so I'm going to release these on the off weeks, to spice up the game.

Eventually, I hope to expand it to include some of the items in this thread, especially ads. I definitely intend to sprinkle game hooks and hints to further mysteries in the paper.
