Campaign Settings you like

My favourites change over the years, right now they are the ones we play in:

- Kalamar (great fantasy campaign world)
- Midnight (dark and sinister, difficult to play, but worth every effort)

and some all time favorites

- Kulthea = Shadow World (it's magic ... :D )
- Yrth = GURPS Fantasy (Orcs vs. Crusaders)

--- and Third Imperium of course :-)

I'm not a fan of the older D&D settings. Greyhawk and FR feel, well, like somebody's homebrew campaigns--.

that's exactly why I liked the old Greyhawk setting... I didn't have to build everything from scratch, had a ready-made pantheon, quite a few established characters... but the place was really not overburdened with details, so I could put in whatever I felt necessary. Plus, I was big on wilderness adventures, and GH has lots of that, in all types of terrain and climates...

For fantasy I only enjoy my homebrew setting - Though I am sometimes tempted by Ravenloft, Dark Sun, the Witcher, R.E. Howard's Hyboria, and Middle Earth. They give me inspiration though... :)

I use published settings for other types of games. I love the Star Wars universe and Shadowrun.

1. Ravenloft/Masque of the Red Death - if given the opportunity to be a player in any campaign setting of my choice or be the DM for a Ravenloft campaign, I'll pick being a Ravenloft DM every day of the week and twice on Sunday (even if I don't have the time to be a DM - I enjoy RL that much I'll find a way).

2. Greyhawk - I'll always be nostalgic for Greyhawk - this was the setting I played and DM'ed in until I was in college. For me, while every other world is a world that D&D is set in, Greyhawk IS D&D to me.

3. Blackmoor - I really enjoy seeing it fully developed in 3rd edition, but give me DA1 through DA4 anyday.

4. Spelljammer - I've tried and I've tried, but I just can't quite get the enjoyment from this setting that I get from a(nother) crawl through S3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. Of course, since S3 was the first module I ever played in, there may be some nostalgic factor here too.
