I'm going to lurk around on this thread and watch your design process. I'm currently working on my own homebrew, and I remember reading those Dungeoncraft articles in Dragon - but I don't have them anymore. Could someone please e-mail me the articles? I would be most indebted. My e-mail address is cordry@cox.net.

I can't remember the issues either, but I'd like to go back and reread them as well, so if someone does happen to know, could you post which issues they were in?

Dragon issue #255

Issue #255 of Dragon is when the articles start.

I've just been rereading them myself. I've even considered using all the work he did, kind of like his world.

Wow, guys thanks for the great ideas. Keep them coming!

Consider the articles sent out.

After I finish a few steps I'll actually go back and consolidate and pick and choose which ideas to use. Also, if you have any good ideas or secrets that I haven't even mentioned feel free to post.

I'll be adding step three a little later today.

The grove is a ancient fey library. The trees themselves hold the information and it is tapped mentally. The voices are in fact these bits of information.

And thus the irony of cutting one of those trees down to make books for a library...

Step 3: National Government

Abiding by the first rule of Dugeoncraft I'm going to keep the politics of my world simple to start with as it will not likely affect my PC's for the time being. I will however expand on the local politics a bit more later.

My un-named kingdom (if you have any good names throw them on out!) is going to is going to be a large kingdom, that I'm going to assume used to be made up of seven smaller kingdoms that have be united under a single ruler. An interesting fact is that the king has his own bodyguard which is made up of the 7 most accomplished and noble warriors in the land. They are known as the kingsguard, they all wear a pure white cloak with a gold trim. They all must swear an oath to protect the king.

The kingdom itself has no enimies or allies (for now), things have been peaceful. The kindom itself will be made up of powerful noble families and I'm not quite ready to go into details here, but I'm looking for any suggestions.

The kingdom will look like this:

King
Hand of the King (Kings justice)
Warden of the North
Warden of the South
Warden of the East
Warden of the West

The Wardens will be responsible for the day to day operations of their respective areas. I plan to start my game in the north, where the wall will be located.

So following with the second rule of dungeoncraft I need to come up with a secret for this new piece of campaign information. This time I'm going to leave it blank and see what kind of ideas I get

Secret #4?

Perhaps you should take a step back and eliminate one of the wardens, just having a warden of the North, South, and East, for instance - and then let players wonder - why isn't there a Warden of the West? What happened there? There is a good spot for a secret...

And how about Kazacan for a name (pronoucned KAZ-za-can).

That's an interesting idea. Perhaps you'd like to expand on it.

I'll wait for a few more ideas and then tomorrow, I will consolidate the three steps I have gone through and hopefully have a more solid base before I continue on and tackle religion.
