Can a Human take the Hierophant Presitge Class in Arcanis?

Greatsword

First Post
My DM is going to run a 3.5 Arcanis (The World of Shattered Empires) campaign. I want to play a human cleric and eventually go into the Hierophant prestige class.

My DM says "the official rules of Arcanis say that only Elorii can take levels in the Hierophant prestige class".

I can't find these rules that say only Elorii can be Hierophants.

I know Dwarves and Gnomes can't take the class. I also know that only Elorii may be Hierophants of Belisarda, but nowhere have I read that Humans can't take it.

So, can a Human take the Hierophant Presitge Class in Arcanis?

If I can get more than one reply on this, that would be awesome.

Your DM overrules any book or rule. He is also the final arbiter of any rule clarification. If he says "no" the answer is "no".

Not the answer you want, I'm sure.

That being said, if only Elorii may be Heirophants of Belisarda, and only Belisarda has Heirophants, then only Elorii may be Heirophants.

If the infomation you have supplied is correct, your DM is not overriding a rule, but actually following it.

Eric, I understand what the DM says is the rules. I don't have a problem with this. The DM is my friend and I have a lot of respect for him.

Also, the requirement "only Elorii may be Hierophants of Belisarda".. to me this means that humans can't be hierophants of Belisarda, only Elorii can pick Belisarda and be a Hierophant of Belisarda. I could be wrong, but why would they specifically mention that Dwarves and Gnomes can't be Hierophants then say only Elorii can be Hierophants?

I appreciate your response, but what I want to know is: In the official rules in Arcanis, can a human become a Hierophant?

I know my friend, even if he was wrong about it, he wouldn't let me play the Hierophant as a human.. so I'm going to go as a regular human cleric all the way, but I just want to know for the heck of it because I'm unsure.

This too may not be the answer you are looking for.

But in my understanding, world settings are not strict rules. They are starting points and which meant to be used and developed by DMs and their players. And even if you are playing in The World of Shattered Empires, that world is, and should be, different from The World of Shattered Empires of other play group. That is The World of Shattered Empires of your play group and your DM.

Many of the prestige classes are not just skills and abilities but social status. So, if your DM says there cannot be human hierophant, there cannot be.

But, at the same time, you can talk with your DM and convince him to make your PC the FIRST human hierophant in your world if it makes sense. PCs are meant to be the protagonists of your games and thus special characters.

The world setting is there for DMs and players to enjoy D&D. That is just a tool for yours to enjoy games. You should use it, should not just obey it as it is written.

Unless you are playing in living X campaign and such, though ....

Heh. Point taken ;)

I don't have the book, but perhaps you have found one of the many gray areas of gaming... ill defined rules

Best of luck in your gaming :)

Players Guide to Arcanis, pg. 195:

Hierophant
Additional Requirements: Dwarves and Gnomes
may not choose this prestige class. Only Elorii may
become Hierophants of Belisarda.
Prestige Class Alterations: In Arcanis,
Hierophants gain “+1 Spell Caster level” every level
after the first as they advance.
Religion has long been a mainstay of life in Onara.
Some individuals dedicate themselves to serving the
gods, and perhaps the gods smile kindly upon this
level of dedication. The dwarves and gnomes find it
difficult to garner the level of attention from the gods
or their servants that this prestige class requires. The
Elorii cannot gain such attention from the human
pantheon; as such the only Elorii Hierophants venerate
Belisarda.
