can an animal have the vampire template?

I don't think that I would use te full Vampire template for critters, but having read through Dragon 300 esp. the Brute Ghost template the idea of an Animal Thrall Vampire template has definite possibilities...

Vampire Gibbering Mouther

Actually, one of the modules from WotC has a vampire Gibbering Mouther in it. The Gibbering Mouther is neither humanoid nor monstrous humanoid, so I'd say there is a precedent already for adding the vampire template to other types of creatures.

Beware...

I'm all for giving the vampire tremplate to other types however be careful of regenerating creatures.

Vampiric Troll
All damage save fire and acid is considered subdual damage.
Undead are immune to subdual damage.
Vampires fast heal (5) all damage sources.

This is a quick recipie to wipe out a party.
