i mean sopwith camels and the red baron, not 2 mutts going at each others throats.

Do you actually want an RPG, or a wargame?

I don't know of any RPGs that include biplane combat per se. Aside from the games mentioned, a (IMO kind of mediocre) pulp game called Danger Quest had some pretty good rules for chasing and vehicle combat.

But if you want to simulate the biplane combat in detail you might look at some of the miniatures/board games devoted to the subject - Blue Max, TSR's old Dawn Patrol... I don't really know what's out there now, but here's a link to a list of products:

Wasn't there a booklet game that did dog-fights? Kind of like the Lost Worlds series, but with wwi airplanes. You had a list of maneuvers, and so did your opponent, and you each picked a maneuver and cross-referenced it in your booklets and turned to a new picture page that showed where your opponent was in relation to your pov, and if you did damage to your opponent.

"Aces" something. Darn, now that is going to bug me all day...

Red Baron..

It's a miniature game(don't remember who makes it). You get the full 3D experience of a dogfight. It is without a doubt one of the most funnest of miniature games I have played.

The plane I most liked to fly was called a Roland(German if memory serves). It had a 360 firing arc above it. I would spend a round or two gaining altitude and closing with the enemy, then I would dive and let them have it.

Savage Worlds has complete chase and dogfight/vehicle combat rules for everything from armored tanks to cars, planes, boats & spaceships. You can use abstract chase rules or tacticals with minis.

oops, what was the question? :o

Now, come on. you were supposed to say:

"Dawn Patrol is the only true dogfighting game. All others are pale imitations."

:D

Here is a link to Dawn Patrol, it's history, and possible future.

your kidding right. Both star wars(1st ed and revised) rules for vehicle and star ship combat are probably the worst I've ever seen.
As an old-school wargamer, I favor the the grid-based tactical combat rules found in the revised core rulebook more than the abstract rules found in the original core rulebook, although I must admit it does need some minor tweaking.

Of course, you can't run a chase/pursuit encounter with grids -- otherwise, you'll be running off edge of the map, even though freestanding, you need to shift playing piece so you can still move -- so I turn to the Spycraft chase system (core rulebook and Soldier/Wheelman Class Guide.

If you're not satisfied with anything out there, make your own.

Ace of Aces

I used to love that game. Don't think it would work very well for d20... I would like to know if anyone has a good RPG dogfighting system.
