can i force my own slide power to fizzle?

When i use Savage Rend i slide the target on a hit as a sideffect.
But sometimes you only want the damage of this power and don't want to slide the target (loosing CA)
Can i let the slide fizzle by announcing an impossible slide?
Slide the creature in an solide object, like a wall, myself or another creature?
Or i am forced to slide the creature always in an open Space?

PHB p.57

If a hit grants you the ability to compel the target
to move, whether through forced movement or teleportation,
you can move it any number of squares up
to the number specified (or not move it at all, if you so
choose).

You don't have to do anything so convoluted.
"You can choose to move [the target] fewer squares or not at all"
PH 285

A power might specify that you HAVE to inflict the forced movement (the only one I can think of is that new sorcerer power that forces a random teleport), but other than that, yeah, you're golden. Keep 'em where you want 'em.

As above. The only time you have to slide a target is when the power explicitly states it is mandatory. Otherwise, you have the option to slide the target all the way or none of the way... and if no specific destination is called for in the power, even part of the way.

As an interesting side-note, on another move related question (Vengeful Parry), Customer Service responded via e-mail:

"Yes you must move the monster. A move of 0 squares is still a move.
Perfectly legal there. Sorry if I wasn't too clear there"

So apparently, you can say, "and I move the target 0 squares" and its legal. :)

While CS is sort of correct, I'm refering straight to PHB2 here. Primary source and all that. It's pretty explicit about this sort of situation.

If one of my players ever tried to give a "Custumer service says..." as a rules interpetation I would have to smack them upside the head with my DM's guide. :p CS answers are so suspect as to be unreliable. Check with them in 5 minutes and you'll probably get a different CS rep and answer.

Going from my previous experienc with them - I'd pretty well have to agree with you. So what I've been doing is re-submitting until I get -5- answers to any particular question, then averaging the results for an answer... :)

and when the consensus here, PLUS CS gives the same opinion, I feel its a pretty safe bet that the answer is probably right... :D
