Can I have your balance opinions on DotF's Sacred Fist?

Bah. If you want to play an unarmed, chop-socky type, screw the monk and this uber-monk-wannabe they dressed up in cleric colours and called the "sacred fist". Play a martial artist, and take a bunch of fighting feats, like those on this page. And best of all, if you wait just a FEW MORE DAYS, you'll beable to get all this chop-socky goodness off of Asgard 7, which is just about to be released.

Right, Rangerwickett?

It better be, because even I'm getting embarrassed at continually pimping my stuff like this. :o

Just a sidenote guys.. ..you're talking about a Core class against a PrC.. ..the reqs are not that great, true, but still a PrC..
When OA went out, one friend thought about playing a monk (he actually did it), and we did a little math between the Sacred Fist and the Tattooed Monk (OA, low reqs as well).. ..the TM is more powerful from the mid-levels on..

Doesn't look to bad. Powerfull, but with the Prereqs thats fine. I dunno what kinda game you guys are playing where choice of weapons isnt a huge benefit. A few archers pick the Sacred Fist off easy. Then theres the whole 'punching the Remorhaz' problem, equally applicable to any number of monsters.

I've got a person (well, a cohort) in my game ready to go into the SF class, so I've been following this discussion with interest, and I was kind of surprised that people thought it was overpowered - on the other hand, the character in question is a cleric (well, Ftr1/Clr4), who is giving up a lot to enter the class, mostly in the area of spellcasting power. (Not only do you lose higher level spells, you also lose the ability to cast spells at range.) For someone who isn't using that spellcasting power, it's a lot more attractive - which suggests to me that the problems might be in the requirements and not the abilities.

Any references to this in the SF flavor text is leftovers from an earlier draft. They cannot use weapons, but are not prohibited from using ranged attacks (spells or other innate abilities).

It's in the erratta somewhere and I can dig for it if you need me to.

Hmm. That's interesting, and gives them some ranged potential. On the other hand, I think their spell list is all personal and touch range spells, so all they've got are whatever they come into the class with.

And it depends on the domain they choose too. I built a few prospective SF's and with careful domain selection (Iron, from OA has Iron Scarf as a 1st level domain spell) a few ranged spells exist.

Well, I just re-read this one and I have to say that I think it's a really focused prc. I like it.

Overpowered? Nah.

Close to overpowered? Yep. The wisdom bonus thing is where a powergamer can really get outrageous, but the loss of any weapon ability is quite a hit. How do you fight a black pudding with this? SLUUTH!!!

Piratecat, is this something Galthia's considering, or is it for an npc?
