i run far to the creative side in the creative/functional scale and i wanna use a skunk, but have no idea how i would stat it out.

base things like int and str are easy, but how would you handle the stench thing?

Until they can clean the smell off (no mean feat either!) they would get an appropriate reaction from people they meet.

If encountering enemies, the smell would clearly give away the victim's presence, but the reaction would vary depending on the creature. I imagine most creatures would just as soon avoid the smell rather than seek it out.

I don't see much need for number crunching it. I think you could wing it just fine. No?

well, i see the smell and spray as being at least somewhat debilitating. can a rogue dodge the spray? is there a ref save? does it blind like in real life?

eh, i could probably wing it, but i like having the numbers to play with :)

I'd probably treat it like Color Spray; chance for blind and stun, without the chance for unconsciousness. It's the simplest way. I'd probably make it a Reflex save, or at least allow Rogues to be able to evade it, because the skunk can't fill a large area. It's just squirting at you.

*blink*

"Hey its a kitty with a stripe or something..." Why would a rogue as a class have any better chance of avoiding it than anyone else with a decent reflex save (or evasion). I'd make it a knowlege nature or survival check to recognize the danger, and avoid it entirely and a reflex save to close your eyes and turn away, but no real chance to avoid the smell attaching to you if you don't know how to stop it from spraying in the first place.

The skunk is stated out in the Tome of Horrors pg.289. You have to roll a fot save (dc10) to avoid nausea and another to avoid blindness, no rules to avoid the stench, it doubles the chance for wandering monsters and imposes a -12 on hide checks. W/O thorough cleaning it lasts 1d6 months.

I'd use the weasel. Both are mustelids of roughly the same size. Their stats are going to be close enough (at least at D&D's granularity).

For the spray, I'd say a ranged touch attack. Just seems intuitive to me. If a hit is scored, give a Fortitude (Reflex?) save or be blinded for 1d4+1 rounds and stunned for 1 round. Success results in being staggered (partial action) for 1 round. Either way, the poor target is going to have a -1 (-2?) penalty on all Charisma based skills for one day or until he is somehow cleaned.
