Can this be right?

OK... Some of you may recall my last thread (This is... Disturbing) about magic item creation with an insane DM. Since he has refused to change his stance, I've abandoned arcane magic in his game and turned my attention to fighters via his Miniatures Handbook and The Complete Warrior book that he loaned to me.

I came up with a concept that I find more than a little odd... Keep in mind that I am a subconscious power gamer who consciously fights those tendencies :).

What I'm looking is a character who takes the following feats...

Exotic Weapon Spiked Chain
Weapon Finesse
Combat Reflexes
Combat Expertise
Dodge
Karmic Strike
Deft Opportunist
Improved Trip
Knockdown

karmic Strike allows you to take a penalty to AC to make an AoO against a melee opponent that strikes you, Deft Opportunist gives you a +4 to hit, and knockdown is hit an opponent, make a trip attack (avoiding details for the moment)

So what these feats allow this character to do at 12th level (It's only 2nd right now, but karmic strike is already there) is to take as many AoO's as he has dex modifier (+5) against a melee opponent that hits him as well as his 3 attacks on his round.

To me, this equates to 3 normal attacks (12/6/1) + 1 attack every time he's hit up to 5 times at his full BAB of 12 + 4 from DO..., i.e. 16. So he could conceivably hit a full 8 attacks in a single full round...

I've read and read, but I can't seem to find any limiting factors. The armor class penalty karmic strike imposes is easily offset by strategic use of combat expertise, and the combat expertise penalty to the attack is offset by deft opportunist...

Add in knockdown and trip, and melee opponents are in some serious trouble. This may seem right for 12th level, but remember, at 3rd level I'll have karmic strike, combat expertise and deft opportunist, so the core of the feat combo is there already... I'll only have a +4 from dex, but that's still a potential 5 attacks per round, all of which are at my normal bab.

This just doesn't seem balanced. Am I missing something?

You only get one AoO per opponent, regardless of how many times he attacks you.
To clarify... you get one AoO per stupid thing the guy does... if he moves out of a threatened square (more then 5ft. and then drink a potion, all in one rnd. you provoke 2 AoOs...

True... the reference to 'how many times he hits you' was aimed at only getting 1 attack from the feat per opponent.

Mike

And each he attacks me is a seperate, new, opportunity, is it not?

And yes, it's a one trick pony... Combined with Spiked Chain, Enlarge, and Improved Trip, it's good only against humanoid types, and only in specific circumstances - outside of those it's only a reasonable fighter.

I'm not worried about the one trick pony trait of it :)

SRD says: but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity).

So, technically, he could make several AoOs against the same opponent.

Also, he could get Defensive Strike and get a further bonus against anyone who attacks - and misses - him in combat when he's using the total defense action. That means more attacks.

Congratulations. You've been accepted into the school of Find a Broken Combo and Irritate Your DM. If you're lucky you might even get the 'Get Kicked Out Of the Game' Diploma! :D

I welcome you to the club with open arms!

You missed the line before it: This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity.

If someone takes a full attack, it's still just 1 action, regardless of how many times you're hit by him. You only get 1 attack per action.

Now, if 6 guys hit you, you'd get six attacks back, one at each.

Does using a half-ogre with Improved Trip, Disarm, Unarmed Strike, and Grapple also get me into this club?
