I just leveled up in TiVo twice today. W00t!
Everything is going online. Classified ads, personal ads, car sales, house sales, news, dirty pictures and stories, movie rentals, movie
viewing. Being surprised or offended that D&D is joining the rest of the universe is pretty pointless, IMO, and fighting it is like trying to empty the sea with a bucket.
Greetings!
Excellent point, Whizbang. I have discussed some of my frustrations with the arrival of 4E in other threads. However, getting with the program digitally and using computers and software and the internet and all that jazz to improve and develop the game, and open up new opportunities to the gaming community sure isn't one of them.
I think it's great! It's about damn time, too. There were so many discussions about this kind of thing back when they announced 3.0 and E-Tools. However, WOTC effed that golden opportunity up then, and fell on their sword by missing an opportunity to exploit new technology with 3.5E.
So, hopefully, this time--they will actually get with the program and do it right.
As for all these different people complaining about that particular aspect, well...really now. It shouldn't surprise anyone. Like you said, everything in our whole society is either shifting to the internet or being hugely enhanced by it in some way. Technology changes, and the hobby does as well.
The idea of paying for it being such a huge problem...."OH, NO!!!! I have to PAY $10 effing dollars PER MONTH to play a game????"--or whatever hyperbole they want to use, is really missing the mark in my view.
A damned *coffee* at STARBUCKS can cost $5 dollars!!!!!!
So, really, $10 dollars a month, $20 dollars a month, to access all this digital stuff for gaming, connecting, building campaigns, and so on--really is *cheap* and a very good deal. More people should be happy about this, and re-evaluate how much they spend on all kinds of other things...routinely--as a comparison.
