Can we replace human moderators with AI?

I think we’ll start by replacing @Tigris with an AI.

More than happy to. If you use an AI which can write posts for me I am all in.

Please feel free to make an TigrisAI bot and let it run in this forum and we can vote on their comments and mine to compare. I am all for progress.

I think that's an assumption, just like the line-welder in the car assembly plant said "Robots can never replace me!".
That is an interesting analogy. You seem to think that human interaction can be distilled to just a few precise movements. It can't, and there is nothing more dangerous that assuming it can and then putting an algorithm in charge of punishing "transgressors."

Also, you may want to look into automation and employment. You may be surprised to find out what robots are good for and what they aren't.

Question #3: What's that AI going to cost? You might not have noticed, but AIs take a pretty decent amount of compute* and compute costs money and people making these kinds of solutions also want to get paid. What are current mods paid? ;-)
You can sell this technology later to other forums. I am sure you easily find investors for this. And else ask the community to pay for the AI mods, as I already suggested.

Also these AIs dont need to be able to do as much as a general AI they are specialized. They just need to close threads. Give warnings etc. They dont need to answer questions in a similar way like chatgpt

Just for clarity, while I’m sure Tigris is having fun, this is in no way a conversation that has any basis in reality or one I have any interest in. So don’t mistake it for anything real. If/when it gets fractious it’ll get closed and I will be aware who started it.
Why not?

If AI could be better than you, then why should you not want it?

As I learned in my job "you should never be afraid to hire someone who is better than you."

The only proof you need of the limits of AI is this thread itself. There's no way an AI would ever come up with something like this!

Ask "How could AI be used to improve forums."

Anwer 1: Content Moderation: AI algorithms can automatically detect and filter inappropriate content, spam, or abusive language, helping to maintain a respectful environment. Machine learning models can learn from past moderation actions to improve their accuracy over time.

“… or one I have any interest in”.

Please do not tag me again in this thread.

But this is just survivor bias.

Yes the people who are still hear like the mods. Or at least find them bearable.

But you dont know how many people never made an account because they saw aggressive moderator behaviour, or which left because moderators were to slow (because they need sleep and cant go through 100 reports per hour) etc.

So asking the people who "survived" and not looking at all of the people who did not is just not objective: Survivorship bias - Wikipedia

Sorry, but no.

First, you are not describing survivorship bias. You are describing the market of users. Both the market that chooses to be here, and the market that Morrus actively and consciously chooses to promote ENWorld to. Or, to put it alternatively, any bias you are claiming is 100% intentional.

Also, none of this claim in any way refutes my claim of value in moderation. If you want to stick to fallacies, your Survivorship Bias is a Red Herring.

They dont need to answer questions in a similar way like chatgpt
But then they don't equal (or surpass) their human counter parts, as the mods do answer question about their mod decisions.

And folks willing to pay for AI mods on here? Why? There are perfectly fine free mods currently active. The only people that would complain about the mods are those that don't agree with those mod positions, paying for the AI mods wouldn't allow them to influence the mod stance on things, so why pay for it?
