Can you counter a Silent + Still Spell?

Yeah, sorry.

OK. Then do you still stand by your opinion that you cannot identify a spell that is being cast and attempt to counterspell it in the same round? Or is that only in regards to a Silent + Stilled spell?

I would have to say that you could still identify the spell, and you could stil dispell/counter it. There has to be some tell-tale sign of the caster casting a spell silent and still don't negate the fact that the caster is still casting a spell. It just means that he could be quiet and stand relatively still while casting. Your character has cast a few spells in the past, and has probably seen other poeple cast spells in a similar fashion in the past. You probably know what to look for. Granted, the signs would be a little difficult to spot, but that is what the +2 increase to the DC reflects.

Hi everyone. I readed this post and remembered something I saw on Song and silence. Look for the feat Disguise spell (page 38). In the description of the feat says:

"Like a silent, stilled spell, a disguised spell can't be identified throught a spellcraft check"

So I would say that you cannot counterspell a silent, stilled spell.
You can try blindly or go for a dispel magic as has been told in other replies.

Sorry to nitpick (Hey, I hang with rules lawyers, cut me some slack, eh? ;) ), but it *could* be counterspelled, but apparently not identified.

The mages/clerics/bards I've run with will take that (can't be ID-ed vs/ can't be counterspelled) as a huge difference. :D

Cheers,
Bill

Only a still silent spell.

Page 19 of Tome and Blood:

When a foe casts a still and silent spell, the DC of the spellcraft check increases by +4.

Yet in Song and Silence it says that a silent still spell can not be identified.

What is the right ruling, or has WOTC not issued anything on it?

Frickin' wierd. Time shoot off some emails!

By the way, has anyone receive a reply from the Sage recently? I've sent several emails to his new AOL address but haven't received a single reply since he left.
