Can you layer weapon enchantments?

Oh well. Here we go again...

Let me go ahead and get us there:

The hardness rules for a sheath could withstand the d6 of damage from an energy weapon!

There. I said it. Now can we not live this again? :)

As a side note, is it possible to have flaming and flaming burst in same weapon? You would gain 2d6 fire damage and 1d10 or more on a critical hit...

Yes it is possible. Note the entry for Flame Tounge.

That's not very good evidence - look at the errata for flame tongue.

As for the "sheath's hardness" argument, Xarlen...what are you making your sheaths out of?

Leather? What hardness?

Wood? The '5 hardness' listed in the book is for 1 inch of wood - talk about an unweildy sheath! In addition, there is nothing in the PHB that suggests you need to overcome an object's hardness to set it on fire.

Metal? Sure, you might not melt the metal. On the other hand, metal tends to conduct heat (or cold) - might get just a little uncomfortable having red-hot steel strapped to your waist. And if you've got a shocking weapon, well...

Simple. Just have a layer of steal, mithrall, or adamantine, and then an outside layer of leather, possibly with pores to vent the heat. Or you could just have an adamantine circlet that you stick your sword in. Remember the flames don't harm you, so they won't harm your leg.

Nothing like the feel of your own razor sharp magical blade banging against your ass as your run in a full-out retreat!!! :p

Ooch! Each! Ouch! Ooch!

Glove of storing. Problem solved.

For the stacking thing, there is one example in the epic level handbook.

Bane.

If you stack "bane" (+2) twice (making it +4) you get a "dread" weapon (which is +7!)

You could stack but not at the same rate. That would be a house rule.

I believe "dread" stacks with "bane" though... Unless it's like the flaming/flaming burst thing.

Also, since both flaming and frost are 'on command' (not 'when drawn'), there is no reason you couldn't have both on the same weapon - just not both active at the same time.

Where is the rule where flame and frost negate each other?

It seems logical from a physics stand point, however having a longspear with two ribbons of energy: one blue, one red entwined along its length like a barber pole would work in my campaign.
