Can you Power Attack with a Flame Blade?

Alejandro

First Post
A Flame Blade is immaterial, so one's Str modifier does not apply to the damage. It is a spell, and thus the special notes on two-handed weapon usage or Light weapon usage do not seem to apply. It requires a melee attack roll in order to deal damage, but the melee attack roll is actually a melee touch attack.

Can one Power Attack with a Flame Blade? Should one be able to Power Attack with a Flame Blade?

Thanks in advance.

That seems like a straight DM call. I'd say that the fact that the damage takes the form of something that looks like a blade is simply flavor. Mechanically, it's a DD spell with touch range (like inflict wounds or shocking grasp) with flaming damage. Since you can't PA with other DD spells, I'd say no, you can't PA with flame blade. JMO.

Halivar's right, you cannot PA with Flame Blade. Since the blade is immaterial and requires only a melee touch attack to hit, it doesn't matter how hard you swing it - the damage remains the same.
