Can't choose a backup PC

Or to go a different route... be a crusader. They still get some healing, with plenty of melee ability, and it would make for a very interesting character. I've been wanting to play one of these for forever.

Yeah, Crusader's are a fun one. The random element to your maneuvers can be a blast.

Straight up Cleric is always fun, but I'm fond of the Paladin/Cleric route. Of course, you've already got a pally, so...

Arcane blaster at this point is a nice step. Hell, be a wizard and enjoy filling in a niche or seven.

Crusader sounds fun, I'll have to see if the DM allows Bo9S. Otherwise I think a big melee cleric might be more useful than a Favored Soul - and I haven't played one for ages :)
Plus, he'll get Raise a lot sooner! Another plus - its not so MAD on the stats.

Which domains do you recommend then? Strength and Healing?

I might go strength and war, playing a good cleric will give you lots of healing as it is. But it's your call. plus you would be more melee tooled up. Iwould find a god that uses a great sword or some other two handed weapon though, but that's just me. :)

I've found that my favored soul is a party saver. I'm multiclassed with fighter so I have heavy armor (a level of cleric/paladin/crusader would do the same). The spell selction is a pain, but sticking with primarily healing spells and self buffs makes me invaluable in combat. I can't tell you how many times I've burned a large portion of my spells on the 2nd level Close Wounds from the Spell compendium. An imediate spell that heals 1d4 + level (max 5) with the improved healing feat (the one that adds +2 pts/spell level) makes it 1d4+9. It's saved more lives in my party than I can count. Then when needed I can break out the regular cure spells on my turn.

Of course most of our fights end up taking around 10 rounds, so that may play a factor.

Doh! Now I'm all undecided again :)
What's your build like for the FS/ Fighter, Ahrimon? Straight 50-50 fighter and FS levels? Or just a few fighter levels first then FS all he way?

I'd take one level cleric for Favored Soul. Gives you domain abilities AND turn undead for Divine Feats. Two things a FS is missing dearly.

Well, seeing as I'm playing RHoD . . .

a sorcerer, with fireball and dispel magic. Those two spells will save your party's butt. I dunno, maybe it's just my GM who wants to always have dragons cast mage armor and shield as their first two actions in a fight, but hitting AC 32 is pretty bleeping hard at 9th level. Plus, you're fighting an army. Refusing to take fireball is tantamount to a sin.

Cross-class ranks into use magic device, so with a decent Charisma you should be able to take 10 out of combat with cure wands. I promise you, if you're killing the bad guys fast enough before they can drink their healing potions, you'll never want for healing supplies.

Actually, if you're 7th level? Dragon shaman 1/sorcerer 6. Get fireball first.
