Can't choose a backup PC

There was context to that post. He said a sorceror, or a dragon shaman/sorceror. Given that context, you can't take 10 with use magic device.

He also said take levels in a class with UMD as a class skill too - so multiclassing is spedified and UMD is indeed a class skill for both of the classes I mentioned.

Perhaps roll up your stats, and then pick your class based on those?

PS: Happy to help you pimp out whatever you choose... I just don't think it's possible to sell someone on a character concept. :)

Righto - did that last night (4d6, highest 3, witnesses). It's still a toss up between being valuable by healing the party or by blowing up the enemy at high speed. With these stats, I think a Sorcerer is slightly more viable than a melee cleric, but they're decent stats for both.

18 16 16 12 12 12

PS: Thanks for all the tips and advice everyone. I've been away from the hobby for about 10 years, and back when we played 2e, I was ALWAYS DM. I'm finally learning to be a player :-)

Check out the Mystic Theurge prestige class in the DMG. It mixes arcane with divine spellcasting. That way you could be a healer and a blaster

Yeah, sorcerer4/clr3 going for MT. You got the stats to make this possible as a melee sorcerer. Scorching Ray looks nice or you might prefer False Life ... stacking temporary hitpoints with Aid. Granted, this will be the weakest time in your MT life...

But you can build a Cha 16 sorcerer with full plate, wis 16 and str 18 for the greatsword goodness ;)

Edit: That warlock/divine spellcaster prclass... what's the name? Well this class would be great for the char as well.

This is the post I was responding to:

Well, seeing as I'm playing RHoD . . .

a sorcerer, with fireball and dispel magic. Those two spells will save your party's butt. I dunno, maybe it's just my GM who wants to always have dragons cast mage armor and shield as their first two actions in a fight, but hitting AC 32 is pretty bleeping hard at 9th level. Plus, you're fighting an army. Refusing to take fireball is tantamount to a sin.

Cross-class ranks into use magic device, so with a decent Charisma you should be able to take 10 out of combat with cure wands. I promise you, if you're killing the bad guys fast enough before they can drink their healing potions, you'll never want for healing supplies.

Actually, if you're 7th level? Dragon shaman 1/sorcerer 6. Get fireball first.

There is no mention of " levels in a class with UMD as a class skill too" in that post. Indeed, he says the opposite: "Cross-class ranks into use magic device".

You seem to have an issue lately with admitting when you made an error. What's up with that? You having a bad week?

That sounds fantastic! Don't sorcerers have problems with arcane spell failure, though? Or is that another foolish question?

Lets say I wanted to build the sorcerer 4 cleric 3 going for MT. The healing will be fine since I can just learn a pile of Close Wounds and use wands & scrolls, plus take Healing domain and have spontaneous cures. It'll be more than we have now so that's me feeling useful already. What about feats then?

Ah, why don't I just get off my ass and search for some MT builds! I keep forgetting I can do that since I got my CSAccount!

Good lord! Great stats! I think they positively SCREAM to be a Melee Cleric, though. :)

Human Cleric:

Str: 16
Dex: 12
Con: 16
Int: 12
Wis: 18
Cha: 12

Feats:
1/ Power Attack, Cleave; Domains: Strength, War (Weapon Focus: Longsword)
3/ Scribe Scroll
6/ Craft Wondrous Item

- - -

Gnome Sorcerer could look like this:

Str: 10
Dex: 16
Con: 18
Int: 12
Wis: 12
Cha: 18

Feats:
Either take a Heritage path, or take several Reserve feats which allow you more flexibility in your spell selection, since you will have a few tricks you can pull "all day". Fiery Burst is a good one for 6th level, since there actually are a bunch of good high-level non-attack Fire spells in various supplements.

I'm glad you feel the need to point that out, especially since I did admit a mistake on another thread when I said flat-footed prevents yuo from using swift actions, it is immediate actions you can't use.

But you are corect. The part about multiclassing at all got me looking at other multiclassing options that would allow taking 10 with UMD since the door was already open to multiclass with the DS/S.

I tried to PM you an apology, but your PMs are turned off. Sorry about that. It came out way more snarky than I intended. I like your posts, and respect your opinion.

No problem - let's see if we can put some of the recent animosity behind us. There are still plenty of things that can be talked about.

PS I have no idea why my pm is off - I can't do searches either and I just renewed by CS account even though it wasn't going to expire until July.

Oh yeah and I also apologize for my share of the snarkiness :)
