Captain America returns... kinda

Just read the issue. Ed Brubaker does not dissapoint. :)

WARNING! SPOILERS BE AHEAD!

His characterization of Bucky is dead on. Of a man unsure in taking on the legacy of a departed friend, while unblinking in the face of danger. He's a man of action, yes. But a man full of doubts as well. I look forward to what challenges him and how he faces them as the new Captain America.

Also kudos to Brubaker for making the Red Skull such a potent antagonist after years of Z grade villainy. I must say, it's the first time I've seen a super villain try to take over a country by crippling it's economy! Truth be told, it's an infinitely more frightening concept than the usual "bomb ze capital unless they cave in to my zemands!" schtick that bad guys like the Skull usually go for. :)

Anyway, this issue was a good taste of things to come. I plan on going along for the ride. Oh, and for the record, as much as I liked Steve Rogers, I hope he stays dead. Having him return would only cheapen the effect his death had on this story and the characters involved.

We all saw it coming. They revealed the new costume design...what. 2-3 months ago?
Huh. I haven't followed comics for 8 years or so. I only recently heard Cap was dead. My friend was all, "No more comin back. He's dead dead. No more Captian America." To which I replied, "Yeah, right."

Well, that's the thing.

The question came up: "Who is Captain America?"

While a lot of people, including those in the Marvel universe, answer "Steve Rogers" and only Steve, others don't agree. Hence, we have a new Cap, who is NOT Steve Rogers, but is probably the one person best suited to follow in his footsteps.

Time and time again, it just seems like Ed Brubaker can do no wrong.

And, of course, this is Marvel. Eventually, maybe 20 years from now, Steve Rogers will be back.

Naa... I'll give it at about 5 years minimum.... that or how ever long it takes for Quesada tp step down. If Steve Rogers returns im pretty sure it either be a clone or it will be revealed that the one that died was a clone.

Actually, Steve Rogers is going to be back this year.

And yes, its the real Steve Rogers. Steve, plus the original Invaders, are doing some time traveling to the current Marvel time. Which means its gung-ho, still in World War II mindset for all of them. From the shot descriptions of it we've had, it really sounds like its going to be great.

Though the series is limited and not an ongoing, I half-expect that this Steve may actually stay instead of going back to the past. But its hard to say with as little info as we have.

EDIT: Was wrong on who's writing this new thing. For some info, here's a link to an interview about it a while back: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125258&highlight=Invaders

Don't forget the classic Steve from the universe next door technique.
