Huh... learn something every day. And here I thought the GW people just threw together a couple of neat sounding syllables. Guess I should have known better.
You tell me. In the Italian edition of WH40K, they translated heaps of stuff about the Imperium with latin or latin-sounding words. So the bolter is called "requiem", the dreadnought is a "sarcofagus", the scanner-thingy is an "auspex", and so on. Sounds cool until you try to game with someone who uses the English edition. o_O

Were they not in either of the OD&D “creature catalog” books or the mystara monstrous compendium?

And thanks guys! :)

The sound like another variety of lizard men. Mind you an intresting variety.

In my own version of Mystara they were the creator race of the serpent folk, lizard folk, yuan-ti, troglodytes, and nagas, the lizard folk being the most common of their servitors.

BTW CR 9 seems a bit high for the critter. The SR is strong, and the spells can be a pain, but a competant 9tt level party will make short work of one.

An SR of 20 effectively eliminates more than half the spells cast by the party, and Die Hard means that they are, well, very very tough to kill. But you are right; even with more powerful attacks than a troll, the CR I gave does seem high (compared to 5 for trolls, which have regeneration 5). Maybe 7, with a level adjustment of +6.

Nope, module M3 was their only appearance in Mystara canon (or any officially published canon, for that matter).

Is this the same as the Carnifex in the Tyranid army of Warhammer 40K?
That would be truly badass. When I was running my D&D game, I was considering putting genestealers in, or some variation thereof. I mainly just wanted to see the look of terror on the players' face when I started plopping 'stealer minis onto the table.

Pseudonatural Abyssal evicerator?
Or maybe the Evicerator is a fiendish genestealer

Book of vile darkness and Miniatures Handbook both had critters Tyranids make great stand-ins for.
