[Carnifex's SH] Monastic Stance feats

Has this class been playtested at all? It looks fine to me, Carnifex, and doesn't seem to be unbalanced or anything, but I'd be interested in knowing how it works in practice.

Nope, it hasn't been playtested, which is one of the reasons why it's up here :D At the moment the only Cerulean One the party has come across has been an NPC, and considering the party make-up it seems likely the only time this will become a PC available PrC would be if I run future Acrozatarim campaigns and/or if I ever do Acrozatarim as a campaign world product or something :D Nonetheless any comments about its balance would be handy...

Balance is hard to say without playtesting, but the PrC looks real nice.

What are the tatoos? holy scripture?

Can we do requests for this thread?

The tattoos are just loads of tiny swirls. Though actually, changing it to be the text of the Azercorium written in tiny words in blue ink is a very cool idea :D

And, er, yeah, I'll take requests :) Whaddya want to see?

In my campaign world, monks are usually tied to some religion or at least a distinctive philosophy, and train under particular schools and styles. For instance, from the SH so far, Ebri is a Nephian assassin of the Shadow school while Cord is a dwarven monk trained in the Grumandic traditions.

To help represent this, monks have access to additional chains of style-specific feats. The bsse feat for all chains is a 'stance,' a combat feat representing the basic manner in which the training of the monk reflects in his fighting, and which the monk must have the time to fall into the stance to gain the benefits (so cannot gain the benefits if flat-footed, for example).

Here are four such feats from different schools:

Shadow Stance [Stance]
You mirror your opponent's strikes and lunges like his own shadow, flowing in reflection of his movements to avoid or minimise the impact of any attacks. You gain a +1 Dodge bonus from the stance.

This stance is practised by the Nephian martial artists, and is the abse stance of the Shadow school.

Scorpion Stance [Stance]
This stance allows you to make devastating hand-to-hand attacks., by instilling a rigidity into your stance and movements so that whenever you strike your whole body reinforces it. Your unarmed attacks inflict +2 damage.

This appears to be the stance used by warriors of the western Scorpion Temple of martial training.

Unyielding Stance [Stance]
This stance, used by the monastic followers of Grumand the Stonelord, reflects that unyielding deity in its defensive form. You gain a +2 bonus to any rolls against attempts to bull rush, trip, disarm or otherwise move you.

Warrior Stance [Stance]
The monastic traditions of the war god Urazel feature extenstive martial training, and focus largely on turning oneself into an adept warrior, even moreso than other martial monastic ideals. You gain a +1 to hit bonus with all unarmed attacks, and this stacks with Weapon Focus (unarmed).

What other sources ( besides the three core) are you using for your campaign?

Um, lots of things really :D

I'll give anything a consideration. PsiHB, splatbooks, MotP, Oriental Adventures, AU... etc etc etc. And obviously Steam & Steel, and what ends up in the Biothaumaturgist's Handbook ;)

Cerulean One of Naskha

Spell Resistance: At 9th level the Cerulean One's devotion to the Great Sorcerer protects him even from the magics of his enemies, causing them to simply slide off him. He gains Spell Resistance equal to 10 + character level.
This is supposed to be character level, not class level? That's a little odd, but it doesn't SEEM unbalanced with the 10+ChL (and a minimum ChL of 14)
