Scribble... that was amazing.

While I was initially a bit shakey on the RITUALS FOR EVERYONE YAY stance, I've definately changed my mind.

Among other things, RITUALS FOR EVERYONE YAY (as it shall now be known) allows a strongly religious non-cleric to have some mechanical heft to his claims. As a player, RITUALS FOR EVERYONE YAY is just plain cool and fun, regardless of wether it fits my backstory or not (granted-it definately will).

Were I DMing it, I'd also feel free to add in all sorts of rigamarole that you have to do to make the ritual work. You know, a stone circle of enchanted menhirs not less than 1,000 years old each, done during a lunar eclipse, uses a bowl of golem's tears, yadda yadda yadda. That not only "feels like" fantasy magic, it feels like the sort of magic that anybody could do if they had all their ducks in a row.

Rituals available to everyone stops them from being a balance concern, which makes tinkering with magic levels a lot easier. I'ts pretty simple to remove all the blatant magic-use classes and rituals and still end up with a balanced game.

Additionally it allows you to have non-adventuring magic users that aren't totally incompetent.
