How does one figure out the caster level for Paladins and Rangers?

Divide it by two, if they are level 4 or up. If 3 or lower, they simply have none.

Through 3rd level, a paladin has no caster level. At 4th level and higher, her caster level is one-half her paladin level.

Through 3rd level, a ranger has no caster level. At 4th level and higher, his caster level is one-half his ranger level.

A popular house-rule I've come across is that, instead of Class Level / 2, you give them CL progression similar to a Paladin's turn undead ability. CL is the calculated as Class Level - 3.
