D&D 5E Casters should go back to being interruptable like they used to be.

Fair enough, on some counts. But you also have to consider how often you want characters to do these things. Harder to justify limited use of some these effects if they're just a thing a person can do and not part of a codified system that provides its own verisimilitude.
It isnt hard, there are dozens of systems and 5e hacks that do it, with playtesting, many in fun ways thatd fit the style youre talking about.

I'd happily trade a yeeted Wizard for removing the Fighter. Let's get rid of the most generic options and take advantage of archetype specificity.
Yes, I'm aware. Neither one is going to go away. "Everyman" is simply too important an archetype, and Wizard fanboys have been calling the shots since 2nd edition at least, if not earlier.

Great! Are you using any of these in your game? Sounds like they would be right up your alley.
What is your point? I know the guy who is happy with both A5E and OSR but who complains about WotC on every single thread isn't telling me I should be happy because I already have options elsewhere. That'd be insanely hypocritical.

But let's think about the name-level wizard in AD&D, shall we?

First, they have no combat cantrips. None. Instead, at 11th level, they have proficiency in two weapons. That's okay, because you can only ever get three. Staff, dagger, dart. Pick two. That's your go-to. Not a scaling damage cantrip. But you don't want to be in combat, because you have approximately 23 hit points. Okay, let's assume you got max hit points at first level. You have 27 hit points. And a bad AC, because you can't wear armor. Which means that you can probably get taken out before getting a spell off. But even if you aren't, if you're hit, you still don't get the spell of. And unless you're casting one of a very limited number of spells (Magic Missile, Power Word), you're going to go last in a round.
More or less correct except for the AC piece: by that level you've probably got Bracers AC 2 or 3, plus a decent Ring of Protection. Throw some dexterity onto that and maybe a Cloak of Protection (which I think stack with Rings by RAW) and your mage's AC can get pretty decent.

Through a combination like this, my 11th-level MU's AC is -6 these days - if she's not surprised.

So you're complaining about issues that don't affect you personally? Welcome to the club! We should have our own subforum.
