Casting time 24 hours - how long does it take?

Legend Lore from the PHB can have a casting time up to 1d10 days and even 2d6 weeks.
A strict interpretation of the rules makes this impossible to cast.

The text of the Legend Lore spell states that 'during the casting, you cannot engage in other than routine activities: eating, sleeping, and so forth'. So there's a specific exception to the general rule listed there ... No such exception is listed for Awaken or Hallow.

With a ring of sustenance most of the problems mentioned go away.

Like none of you have stayed up 24 hours at a LAN-party or something similar? Its not That Hard.

Im not seeing it as a really plausible thing......

Not drinking or eating for 24 hours won't kill you. And nobody said you can't pee in your pants.

For something like Awaken- I'd say it more has to do with establishing a connection with the animal then mumbling words and making hand gestures for 24 hours straight.

Perhaps every two hours, an invocation must be atoned, but the rest of the time is spent hanging out with the animal? or feeding it, petting it, conversing with it, whatever.

This requires a judgement call based on the spell and the DM IMHO.

If nothing else, one could say meditation takes a large part of the time... focusing your mind on the subject... probably would be a bit less demmanding.

Since when do you know the exact nature (pardon the pun) of the ceremony? It could be nothing but 24 hours of food orgy! Like, "See, when you're Awakened, you get to have all this fun!"

Im pretty sure "peeing in your pants" will be severly distracting....

I can't help but find it funny that we're talking about casting spells (rituals really) that breathe intelligence into animals, or grant divine knowledge, or prevent teleportation and planar travel, etc...and the only problem you see is managing bodily functions.
