Castles & Crusades - Who interested in a PBEM?

Hi Turanil - if anyone drops out, I'd like to play! :) I was thinking a human Highlander Fighter, wandering swordsman type. If you get any vacancies please drop me a line at simontmn (at) postmaster.co.uk

Cheers,

Okay, I'm working on a concept here, so maybe you can help me flesh out the character some.

What I'm thinking of is a half-elf wizard (possibly with a level of something else). The idea is that a female noble had a dalliance with an male elf, and she became pregnant. I'm not sure how the noble family would have dealt with her. Maybe they married her off to the nearest noble lord, who may in fact despise the child.

The resulting child would then have to hide his heritage, though he's curious about it. He's thus divided between noble heritage and his elven background. He's got a step-father who despises him, and a mother who loves him, though she's ashamed at her dalliance. Perhaps a sibling of some sort too. Or maybe not. Maybe the step-father isn't capable of fathering children. And, of course, the real father is out there still.

Can you play a noble wizard? Or would the child have to be an outcast noble who is trying to reclaim his heritage in a world that won't allow him to?

I'm not sure how this would work. Give me some pointers if you would, please. :)

Important Note

Players will be expected to describe their characters to everyone in the list. However, they are not required to tell about their ability scores, professions, family secrets, and what not.

Okay, we have a plain Church Knight about whom everything is known, since the character is detailed in this thread. Given it's a paladin, this makes sense. Hakon is not a guy who would hide who he is and comes from.

However, I encourage everyone else to write me directly to discuss his character. Then, once done you will describe yourself: what's obvious at first sight (sturdy dwarf in mundane clothes, or sleek human with a rapier, for examples), and then will in-game tell the others what he deems appropriate to tell. A wizard is not obliged to state he is an arcane spellcaster.

All of you will be individuals put together for the best or for the worst by fate. You will learn who each of you is as the story unfolds.

The seven players mentioned above have one week from now to join the googlelist and create their character. Those who don't are assume to leave places for others to join. First arrived, first join.

Thanks.

Hoho! We've really suckered them in with the old "Sure, he's a hulking half-orc Paladin, wink, wink ..." routine! It will be great to see their reactions when they find out he is a Gnome Assassin!

Oops, is this a public post?

Interesting - a French forum? My French reading ability is okay, but I haven't written anything in a bit ...

Edited for stupidity: Okay, I see you are in France - the mystery is resolved! I'm probably only an hour ahead of you here in Helsinki.

I used Hakon as a template so that you will get PC's with some sort of standardization on the sheet:

Background: Once a gifted witch hunter in the service of the One True God, Constantin served the church well while performing his duties. So well, in fact, that he was given a small promotion to Inquisitor, a position with less paperwork and questioning of suspicious persons and more actual heretic hunting. Already a pious and devout member of the church, Constantin has redoubled his efforts in the name of the One True God; spurred on by his recent successes within the church hierarchy. The inquisitorial arm of the church is only trained in the basics of melee combat and thus relies upon the church's Paladin Knights for major crusades. The Paladins and Chaplains of the Inquisition work closely together to root out heretics from the darkest of hiding places, even unto their own death, with praise for the One True God carried upon the wind with their last dying breath.

I am having a hard time joining that google group, as I dont read French. Any suggestions on how to quickly get registered to the group?

I've now signed up to the group, but its under my Yahoo name rather than my board name.

Outline of character so far

Hermann Schwartzgrun
Dwarf Fighter 3

Hermann is a dwarven mercenary, a veteran of many battles with the scars to prove it. He wears the bright colours of the mercenary fighters over his armour and carrying a two handed axe.

With his grim demeanor and quick temper Hermann appears a threatening character, but he has the fierce loyalty of the dwarves being unwilling to leave his comrades in peril or in difficulty.

He still carries the tools of his former trade as a smith, having abandoned his apprenticeship to seek battle against the enemies of the dwarven race and to earn the mercenaries gold.
