D&D 5E CB's Stonefast IC -- COMPLETE

Creature-Fanged_Skeleton.png

When Fulgrim picked up the glaive--which turned out to be an intact and fully functional weapon--Guran noticed that the bones strewn around the room were, in fact, remnant of corpses. Out of the corner of his eye, Guran spied three of the room's more discrete piles of bones begin to animate themselves into malformed skeletons. One skeleton nearest Fulgrim (in the NW corner) loomed tallest--a good six inches above the dwarf's head. A second began to stand closer to Colden (in the square in front of the now-open door to Room 7). The third was very near Guran (in the NE corner).

OOC: Everyone roll initiative. Of the three characters inside Room 7, Guran has a passive Perception of 15, so he notices the skeletons "hiding" in the rubble. Fulgrim and Colden both have a passive Perception of 11, not enough to beat the skeletons' Dexterity (Stealth) 12.

Room 7 is a 10'-square room, so with Fulgrim, Guran, Colden, and three skeletons in the same room, it'll be close quarters. When five or more individuals are in Room 7, each individual will incur disadvantage on its attack. Since Guran perceived the skeletons, he gets a surprise-round movement/action, but without disadvantage because the skeletons are not fully (re-)formed by the time Guran takes his turn. We will start the regular initiative sequence after Guran's surprise-round turn is resolved, at which point disadvantage will kick in.

Focusing on the concealed door, Fulgrim sighed in annoyance when he heard clattering behind him. Why did the others have to be so loud?

OOC: [roll0]

"Monsters re-forming!" Guran gasps aloud, pointing at the skeletons. "Bolt from the room! They have us surrounded!"

As his action, Guran darts out of the room ("leading by example") but turns just outside the doorway in the space just east of the doorway, and turns to face the threat, drawing his light hammer as he does.

OOC: Aw, crisps on a croissant! I forgot Guran's 2nd-level ability -- "Cunning Action" -- that he just gained recently. Dangit!

Immediate RetCon: Bolting out of the room was Guran's bonus action to "Dash," which he was afforded by his new "Cunning Action" feature.

OOC: Do we get to say that Guran was able to get through the space containing the not-yet-fully-formed skeleton near Colden, on account of that skeleton's not having fully formed yet?

As his action, Guran attacks the forming skeleton near Colden by throwing his light hammer at it:

OOC: Yeah, the built-in dice-roller continues to suck; This is yet another Natural 1 my PCs have rolled for damage with a d4 weapon.

SURPRISE ROUND

Guran bolted from Room 7, darting past the not-yet-fully-formed skeleton in the doorway. Once clear of the skeleton, Guran skidded to a stop just 5' to the east of the open doorway, and threw a light hammer at the skeleton. The hammer exploded against the skeleton newly formed in the doorway, dealing double damage for 8 points total, and sending a spray of bone fragments blowing backward into the room. The hammer clattered to the stone floor of the doorway, just at the skeleton's feet.

COMBAT ROUND 1
Strahd_Von_Zarovich, I need an Initiative roll for Roscoe. ALL: Make an Intelligence (Religion) check. Please post at will. I will resolve combat by initiative order, unless something drastic happens and then I'll pause mid-round to let people re-state actions.

Initiative:
Guran 20
Skeletons 13
Father Spec 11
Colden 10
Fulgrim 5
Roscoe ?

"Take out the one blocking our way out!" Fulgrim urged. Using his warhammer, he did his best to distract the injured skeleton.

OOC: Fulgrim uses his action to Help Colden, which should cancel out his Disadvantage to attack.
Intelligence (Religion): [roll0]
