Colden swung his warhammer at the orb but missed. Orc4 hefted its greataxe and swiped at Colden, but missed, barely. Orc3 slashed at the spider, killing it. The riding saddle lay intact on the front half of the spider's body, but the barding was cloven in twain.

OOC: Had to remind myself that Colden uses the warhammer one-handed because he also relies on the Dueling fighting style. :) Next up is Fulgrim, Forged Fury. Maximilian's earthen hand is still in effect. The map remains the same as above.

Fulgrim gestured with his hand, moving the giant earthen hand adjacent to the floating horror and directing it to grasp the creature in question.

OOC: Action - Redirect Maximilian's Earthen Grasp to R44 and attack the beholderish thing. DC13 Strength Save or it takes [roll0] damage and is restrained.

The earthen hand moved on a diagonal to R44. Its clay fingers moved in tandem--the clay of the hand juxtaposed darkly against the dimly lit room, each digit moving as sequential visual image--grasping and crushing the life out of the orb, dealing 9 points of damage. One of the orb's eyestalks went limp, and a guttural stuttering groan escaped the orb's toothy maw. All the way back down the far end of the hall where he stood, Fulgrim felt the creature press insistently at the edges of his mind. The words being streamed his way were spoken in Deep Speech, Fulgrim thought, but the images were plain enough: a drow priestess whipping a comely red-haired female dwarf inside a cell of natural rock; an Ilithid in tattered robes with a long row of fabric-covered buttons sitting at a wooden table, bent over a book written in the Common tongue; a grove of phosphorescent mushrooms, their light brilliant in an otherwise dank cavern; and, finally, a city steeped in twilight with myriad towers perched on a high ledge overlooking a vast dark lake. Fulgrim's view of the latter widened--yielding a panorama of twinkling lights and drow walking narrow byways--then went hazy as the earthen hand squeezed the last of the life out of the orb.

[sblock=Telepathy]At work, so without the benefit of the MM description of Telepathy, but the Interwebz tells me that this is the description of the Telepathy ability from the 5e MM: "Telepathy is a magical ability that allows a monster to communicate mentally with another creature within a specified range [120']. The contacted creature doesn't need to share a language with the monster to communicate in this way with it, but it must be able to understand at least one language. A creature without telepathy can receive and respond to telepathic messages but can't initiate or terminate a telepathic conversation." The message was directed in words first, then in images, all at Fulgrim, Forged Fury.[/sblock]

OOC: Next up is Guran, tuxgeo. I'll do a map update tonight when I'm home. For now, you can ignore X/D, X/S, and the spider. Only Orc3 and Orc4 are still alive (their locations on the last map are still valid). The earthen hand is in R44.

Still wielding his short sword, Guran turns away from the now-dead horror-orb and, impressed by the excellent teamwork of Father Spec and Fulgrim, attacks Orc4.

OOC: Using up Guran's Inspiration from the level-up to get Advantage; using SA because Guran has an ally--Colden--adjacent to the target.

Guran stayed put but re-focused on the orc in front of him. He used Colden's presence to good effect, finding an opening and a weakness when the orc was least expecting it. Guran slashed at Orc4, opening an artery on the inside of the orc's thigh and critically wounding the unsightly creature. Guran dealt 16 points of damage.

OOC: Guran critted! YAY! In the interest of speeding things along, I rolled Guran's extra die of critical damage. A link to the roll is in the post. Next up is Spec, Kobold Stew. Two orcs remain, both in the location marked on the last map.

The thin thread running through his fingers as he rushes forward into the room, Father Spec reaches for the knife that Colden had lent him. He had not used it before, and indeed, when he had found the rope he had thought he might never do so. But the silky thread dropped form his grasp as he reached for the hard steel blade, and struck at the wounded Orc in front of him.

OOC: Move to S44.

Attack Orc 3 with dagger: [roll0]. If a hit, [roll1] damage.

Spec bolted forward to S44, stopping beside the spider carcass, and struck at Orc3, dealing 6 points of damage. Spec's dagger--newly acquired--sank to the hilt into the orc's mid-section. When Spec withdrew his blade, blood came with it, covering both the dagger's edge and his hand. The light in Orc3's eyes snuffed, and the orc fell to the hard stone floor.

OOC: Spec has moved to S44 (and dropped the rope of arachnea tethered to the ceiling panel. The earthen hand is still up, and occupies R44. Next up is Roscoe, Strahd_Von_Zarovich. The orb is dead, but its body is lying (deflated?) in the room. I leave it to you to decide whether and how to rp the fear effect; technically, it would have dissipated with the orb's demise. Still, I think you're justified in going whole hog (bad joke!) and continuing to have Roscoe rp fear since the corpse is within his line of sight. Your call.

The Orb of horror fell but Roscoe was still unsure if the source of his terror was dead indeed, gathering courage he rushed forward to the thing and attacked the fallen Orb so he could be certain that it is dead.

Roscoe lunged forward and sliced repeatedly with his short sword at the orb's corpse. After a few blows, the Halfling barbarian was convinced the orb was well and truly dead. Ichor seeped from multiple stab wounds and began to spread across the floor.

OOC: Colden's up, Skarsgard. Only Orc4 remains, and he's looking iffy.
