Celine Dion, of all things

I've loathed Celine Dion's music for years, but my opinion of her as a person has gone up tremendously after hearing that she wrote a check for 1 million dollars to go to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. It's nice to be reminded every once in a while that the exorbitantly wealthy are human beings too.

That is pretty cool. A lot of people are stepping up. I liked the article about Joe Horn (WR from the Saints) visiting some of the refugees:

And, if memory serves, she's Canadian. Technically, she doesn't have a dog in this fight, but she helped out anyway.

A big thanks to our friends up north. We appriciate it.

I think I speak on behalf of all of us Canadians when I say that you're welcome, and we're always glad to help.

She's french-canadian.

Sorry to point that out, but after being forced to acknowledge her being one of use for her music, I guess I'll point it out when it comes to her charity donation.

Our Prime Minister is taking some serious heat about not offering help or sending condolences fast enough. He didn't make a public statement until Wednesday, the 31st. I'll speak for all Canadians in saying that the devastation in New Orleans is front and centre in all our minds.

Amen to that.

I used to live down there, and I've been watchng pretty intently.

I know it's probably poor form to say so, but I'm glad The Quarter was spared:)

Nicholas Cage also donated one million dollars to Hurricane Katrina relief. There were a few other celebrities that donated a huge chunk that was reported on Entertainment Tonight last week but I did not catch all their names.

Also, as much as some people loathe the Wal-Mart chain, the last news that I heard was that they donated fifteen million dollars to the relief fund.

That's just the chain itself. I understand the family has donated 8 million more.

Meh. I've yet to see her fly down to the affected areas.
