Chain Mail: How do you draw it?

OK, I am having the hardest time drawing chain mail. First I did a rough sketch to see what it would look like if I put in all the chains: looked bad. Then I tried putting the chain mail detail only in certain parts, kinda like hair, but I am still not satisfied. Can anybody help me out here?

There's actually a number of different ways to depict chainmail. You might wanna check out a few different artists' styles and see which one you prefer, and then sketch it out and see what works for you.

Personally, I think my style is a little overworked.

Personally I like the way that Keith Parkinson renders it in colour.

This is some thing that gives me fits too, and it seems more and more likely to that there really isn't a good trick other than a lot patience and hard work.
