Champions of Valor

Yes, adding organization level substitution levels and more info on evil organizations (esescially minor ones) would have definitley added to the value of CoR. I still like the book, but CoV has shown that it could have been much better.

Indeed. Which once again proves, if you want a quality FR product, Boyd and Reynolds are your guys. At least in my opinion.

Which makes laying off Reynolds make less sense...

Him and Boyd have made some awesome books for FR...

Colour me impressed... despite expecting that it would be another dud like Champions of Ruin (which, admittedly, had its good bits but overall was a disappointment).

Actually, Champions of Ruin had just enough useful to me, despite the abusrdly long PrC and magic item descriptions, that I rather enjoyed it. I didn't pick it up on first read, but I figured I would.

CoV, on the other hand...I've looked at it twice in two different stores, and both times I wanted to convince myself that it was worthy of buying...but I can't bring myself to buy it. There appears to be nothing that appears useful to me at all in the book...and I'll buy books based on a couple of feats or a cool PrC. Sigh.

I'm pretty sure that Sean resigned.

As I recall it, his girlfriend Willow got an excellent job in Northern California about the same time the layoffs were going on. Since she was going to be leaving, he offered to be laid off instead of one of his coworkers, since he was planning on going with her...

Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm sure Sean will correct me. :)

Close enough. Willow was looking for dance opportunities in San Diego, I was offered a job in Irvine (at Interplay, working on what would have been Balder's Gate III), so when rumors of layoffs started I said "might as well take me, as I'm going to be leaving soon anyway."

Edit: And thanks for the complements on the book, we're glad it's getting such a positive reaction from readers.

I really like this book. It could have been yet another trip over the same material, but instead it's very interesting, both 'fluff' (all the yummy adventure hooks) and 'crunch' (substitution levels finally being taken out for more than a quick spin around the block). Worth the money, IMO.
