Changing Alignment

Hello all,

One of my characters, Uriel (Elven Wiz12) started out as neutral good (and acted as such), but is becoming more and more arrogant and selfish, as he grow in power. He is still attached to his life-long friends (Testurho, human cleric and Garadur, elven fighter) and would do anything for them, but other than those 2 guys, he'll probably won't give a hoot. He still "helps", tho, but only if there is a promise of reward, or somewhat of a challenge, so that he receives fame for his actions.

His actions no longer reflect that he is neutral good. Are there game mechanics in place for changing alignment? Will he suffer penalties of some sort?

Thanks in advance.

Alignment change doesn't incur a penalty per se any more. In some situations, I'd still punish it, though.

I had such a situation a little while before: I DM an evil party, but I told them, both out of game and in game, that I won't tolerate infighting in the party (the in-game part was issued from a very powerful individual who is sort of a mentor to some of the characters, and the relitious organization the others belong to: they were told that if they sabotage the mission by betraying other party members, they would die). I had played in evil parties myself, and in some of them the other party members where a much bigger danger than the enemies one would encounter, with party members being attacked and even killed. One game even broke up because of one character that terrorized the rest of the party (though the DM could have handled that differently).

Anyway, one of those players started to nick treasure for himself (and was even seen by others). Now that is one thing. The other is, he was Lawful Evil. So he ignored a direct order. At that time, I gave him a last chance to either play the part of a LE character or change the alignment - without penalties. Had he ever worked against other party members again, he had got a forced alignment change - with a hefty penalty. (That guy's not a terribly good roleplayer and often confuses RL and game. Luckily, he stopped to show up a while ago - without telling anyone).
